If I'm taking a WR or RB in the first round, he better have off-the-chart physical talent that clearly separates him from other guys at his position.
I agree, this is where a mistake was made by Payton/Loomis when Meachem was drafted. I like Meach but I viewed it as a mistake immediately for the reasons you have stated. He did not possess that rare freakish ability for a first round pick (even though it was late first round).
There are so many WRs flooding the league at this point due to the pass first mentality of the league.....I feel that solid receivers can be had in the mid rounds as well.
I feel that we have two guys that can stretch the field on the outside (Stills and Morgan). Morgan is the wildcard however with his injury history.
If we are going to take a receiver....I would rather take a "Landry type" with great hands and toughness to go across the middle and help Colston, and allow Still to be the explosive receiver of the group.
O-line is more important IMHO due to Drew's age and the increase in sack totals. I know that everyone is enamored with Armstead, but we only have a small sample size. Hopefully he is the answer at LT, but I am still concerned with the line play. It could be (as stated above) more about the oline coach than the talent.
