Source: The New Orleans Advocate - Nick Underhill

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller received some praise from head coach Sean Payton after the team was surprised to be able to land him in free agency. 'His cutup is unbelievable,' Payton said of Spiller. 'And I'm not talking about last season because I think it became challenging, but you go back a couple of years and start looking at his screen reel, a sweep reel, a return reel.'

Spiller will fill in the Darren Sproles/Reggie Bush role and we actually think he could put up some nice PPR numbers while he's at it. Don't count on RB1 numbers, but some nice RB2 numbers are likely.

Payton is an architect of run catch run plays. Spiller is going to get a lot of these what we football guys call RCR routes.

We're trying to find another Sproles. This begs the question: Why didn't we just keep Sproles at $3.3M a year (his contract with the Eagles) instead of the $4M being paid to Spiller?

1) We thought Cadet could do it for less?
2) We thought age was catching up to Sproles?
3) We thought J. Graham could compensate for the loss?

That's all I got. Hindsight is 20/20.

If a big breasted blonde falls in a forest and no one is around to hear her fall, does she make a sound?

329 rush yards & 387 receiving yards, is that worth $3.3M?...Because that's what Philly got out of him....Not to mention that was the 4th year in a row that his yards from scrimmage have gone down.......also that was his first year in Chip Kelly's system & with LeSean McCoy, nobody knew exactly what to expect, but now without McCoy and a year's worth of game film with Sproles under Kelly's system it's hard to imagine his yards form scrimmage increasing.......I like Sproles a lot and love what he did for us as a Saint, but the trade we made for him was in the team's best interest

Spiller is what, 28? He's in his prime right now and while we could have gotten another year maybe our of Sproles, his age and production didn't match the price tag.
If Spiller can do what Sproles did in 11...thats money well spent.

Spiller is about to go in dry on the NFC South. If Falcons fans were pissed about what the Brees/Sproles combo did to them, they haven't seen anything yet.

Spiller can also run between the tackles. Sproles got too predictable for us unfortunately, in par due to the oline
