Spend a 5th rounder on this guy and shore up the damn K spot for the next 12 years.

We had Hopkins who broke the record for career points in FBS history, if I recall correctly. And we let him go.

Also, I don't think I've ever seen a kicker declare early for the draft

Has never missed inside of 40 yards. If that stayed true in the NFL he defiantly worth a 5th.

I would be absolutely okay drafting a kicker of his quality. A 5th would be better spent on a starting kicker than a practice squad/special teamer

How do you know Aguayo will be a starter? Kai Forbath was solid. Antonio Brown was a 5th rounder and he's the best WR in the game today. I wouldn't discredit 5th round picks to "practice squad/special team guys." Some of these guys perform. Green Bay's Center is a 5th round rookie and looks like a Veteran out there. I would hope we could get that lucky, but idk if drafting a kicker will automatically makes us a better team.

Kenny Stills was a 5th rounder
Carl Nicks was a 5th rounder

So we definitely need to draft Aguayo then with our 5th round picks since it's so lucky.

I'm not discrediting a 5th rounder at all. I'm saying we need a good Kicker that badly and he will be the best this year and honestly has been the best in CFB the last few years.

Because it was retarded.

They could've gotten 8 years of Shaun Alexander who went two picks later. Give me that over a good kicker. Neil Rackers, a perfectly fine NFL kicker for years, went 150 picks after Sebas.

Drafting Aguayo alone probably gives us an additional 2 wins a year. I'd give a 5th in a heart beat. Maybe even a fourth if others are looking at him. I remember plenty of games where we lost cause of field goal kicking and ended up 2 wins shy of either playoffs or better seeding.

They drafted Lechler in the 5th round of that same draft. GOAT special teams draft.

Can't believe "inbeforeerxleben" hasn't been done. Don't draft kickers.

In 16 seasons, Janikowski went:
6-6 1-19 Yards
103-106 20-29 Yards (97.2%)
113-125 30-39 Yards (90.4%)
111-151 40-49 Yards (73.5%)
52-92 50+ Yards (56.5%)
with a career long of 63
1st rounder

20 seasons of Vinatieri went:
10-10 1-19 yards
172-178 20-29 yards (96.6%)
153-181 30-39 yards (84.5%)
141-183 40-49 yards (77.1%)
27-46 50+ Yards (58.7%)
career long of 57
UDFA

10 seasons of Gostkowski went:
3-3 1-19 yards
84-88 20-29 yards (95.5%)
98-108 30-39 yards (90.7%)
74-95 40-49 yards (77.9%)
17-22 50+ yards (77.3%)
career long of 57
4th rounder

sometimes you can find them, sometimes its worth that 4th rounder man.

Kickers are just weird so you never know. Henery was the last big time college kicker and he's out of the league now.

I think you're overestimating this. Some mathematicians did a study a few years back that basically argues that the difference between the 1st and 32nd best K is pretty minimal, and they generally fluctuate from year to year as well. I haven't been able to get access to it, but the basics of it seem to make sense. One thing you could argue is that FG accuracy has improved significantly over even the past decade, so your average FG kicker's value has probably picked up a little bit. Still not worth forgoing that pick IMO. Saints have a lot of needs right now, we are better served placing our bets on a diamond in the rough FCS OG or something.

Just seemed to regress every year like Hartley...

4 years total:
24/27 88.9% year 1 (missed 2 30s, 1 50+)
27/31 87.1% year 2 (missed 1 20s, 1 30s, 1 40s, 1 50+)
23/28 82.1% year 3 (missed 1 30s, 3 40s, 1 50s)
1/5 20.0% year 4 (missed 2 40s, 2 50+, 1 hit 50)

Although to be honest the 15th ranked kicker is mid 80s.

all of ours were below that.
