I was thinking back over the Saints history, and one question popped up that I'm trying to figure out. Who was the first Black QB to start a game for the Saints? I started watching the Saints back when Jeff Blake was the starter, but I know he couldn't have been the first right?

I remember it was a big deal when we signed Joe Gilliam, but I do not recall him ever starting a game for us (may not have even made it out of camp).

That's the first place my mind went too, but I think you're right I don't think he ever started a game for us. He may have started a preseason game, but I'm not even sure about that.

Gilliam did start a pre-season game, but not a regular season one. Blake is the 1st regular season.

His career was over in Pittsburgh from racism. He was incredible QB throwing the ball with incredible accuracy, but he just came up during the wrong times. He had the Steelers unbeaten and lost that one game which is all they needed to hand the job over to Bradshaw and Gilliam never saw PT with the Steelers again. Then the drugs came afterwards to help him cope with not playing with the Steelers anymore I guess. It's a shame and a sad story, about the only other person I saw that threw like him actually played for the Saints. Ole Aaron Brooks, he fired got damn laser like passes just like Gilliam, although, I think Gilliam was much more accurate than him.

Pretty sure there was a black QB who started a replacement game in 87. Last name Ingram?

Blake had the prettiest deep ball I have ever seen. Sucks that Raider rolled up on his ankle cause he would been our QB for years.
