Can't blame Roman Harper for blitzing and being on 1-1 coverage with Vernon Davis.

It was made impossible for us to lose the game in regulation at that point. No reason to blitz there, but that was Williams, the good and the bad

They'll finish 7 or higher, no question.

Defense on the other hand...

Analogous. Unbelievable pitching on those teams.

Man, I don't know if you had a chance to read Detellier's review of the first preseason game yet but it'll drive you to drink. He does not like this defense's prospects at all.

With that said, it's got to be frustrating to have an offense that good and only one SB appearance. I didn't realize the offense was that good all those years and it feels like a waste of an offense that was dynasty like.

we should have two SB rings now and be shooting for a 3rd before drew retires. Remember 2011? Had the lead late in the 4th and blew it both times. We would have had the giants at HOME for the NFCCG. We were undefeated at home that year. We killed the giants already in the regular season. We would have outscored the pats for the SB. That year will haunt us forever if we do not grab another ring soon. That was the GREATEST SHOW ON TURF. record setting offense that year.

With a bottom 5(maybe worse) set of WRs/TEs I don't see anyway this isn't Brees's worst season statistically by a long shot. And with Spiller never being able to stay on the field safe to say this Saints offense won't be all that scary. JMO

I thumbed through it but didn't read it all the way through. I basically brushed it off because I thought it was obvious that they were asking a lot of the young defenders to do stuff they either weren't ready for or that they more than likely will not be required to do to much during the regular season. There is no getting around the fact that there are things to worry about, but I just can't see the sky is falling attitude from the fans/media based on the results of one preseason game.

I agree with you for the most part, but the thing that really got to me was his comparison of that game to the 2014 preseason, specifically with regard to penalties and how we thought it was just an aberration in the 2014 preseason opener, but then in retrospect it turned out to be a foreshadowing of things to come.

He was incredulous that after the way things started last season, that Payton could let it open the same way two years in a row.

I agree that this is a problem. Penalties typically are not a switch that can just be turned off once the games start. If they were all happening in the 4th, then you may be able to attribute them to players that probably will not be here next year. But, they were throughout the game and most of them were inexcusable.

I'm interested to see how that "bottom 5 WR/TE group" prediction pans out....

This offense will be a top 5 offense again. Cooks is going to be a star in this league, and with the addition of Spiller our short passing game and running game will be very productive.

We finished near the bottom in penalties per game last year

Seattle had the most and New England was 27th I think.

Cooks is a 8-9 ypg catch kinda guy, more of a possession guy. I don't think his body can hold up for an entire season.
