Just an idea: if we trade for butler we will be giving a pretty nice size contract and of course will have to compensate the patriots ; are there any above average free agents corners we could sign for maybe a little cheaper and at the same time keep our drafts picks ???

You don't think they thought of that already?

if there was they would have signed them, what is left in FA isn't any better then drafting one.

its butler or the draft, there are no other "real" FA options worth bringing in that would be better then who we already have now

Beaux, Williams, Crawley, Moore, Swann is a good little nucleus, but we need a true #1 CB... Beaux, for all his potential and flashes of good play, ain't that guy, yet... nor do we know if he ever will be... he's a great #2, but for that straight up lock down guy, we either have to get Butler, or hit a homer in the draft...

Not sure if he's injured or what but the Packers released CB Sam Shields and I remember him being pretty solid for them at times. The fact that he's still a FA worries me but he'd be a cheap option who could contribute in my opinion.

Yes?

But Breaux was blossoming into a decent number 1 or very good 2. Williams was definitely showing flashes of why he was considered at first rounder at some point (but off the field stuff knocked him down). Crawley actually played at a Breaux level last year for the most part. Swann is a good nickel.

All of those guys have potential. Problem is we are lacking a true number 1 corner. Butler should be that. A draft pick likely won't be (odds are against it, and even against him starting this year).

Claiborne has potential too, but he had one good year compared to Butler's three. I'll take the more consistent guy even if it cost more.

I mean if you have:

#1 Butler
#2 Breaux
#3 Williams

With Swann, Crawley, or Moore providing depth, that looks like a pretty good group to me. Problem is we don't know the status of Williams or Swann.

Williams is training and saying a lot of things about looking forward to next season according to twitter. Good sign.

Swann's last tweet was about his headache.

Swann's last injury wasn't a concussion, but I get the joke.

The saints are the only team dumb enough to give away a first round pick for Butler.
Sign MC and be done with it.

I understand both sides of the argument and in a way you could say that you could be buying a pick.

You could have Butler at a cost of probably 11-12 million a year or Claiborne and the #32 pick for around 7 million a year.

So the question will always be is Butler worth 4 million and a 1st round pick.

BTW--I say offer a 2nd round pick.

Now this would be sick.
#1 Butler
#2 Breaux
#3 Williams
#4 Moore
#5 Webb
#6 Swann ST and Backup

Hell no to Webb. If we still need depth bring Moore back. Webb was awful. Moore actually covered ones decently at times.

You also forgot Crawley who was doing a damn fine job given the spot he was thrust into.

I'm bracing my self for the possibility of giving up #32 or both the 2nd & 3rd for Butler. If I was king I wouldn't pay more than a single 3rd.

I would be exploring a competitive deal from the Rams for Trumaine Johnson. He is under the franchise tag but there has been rumor he could be had in trade.

And I don't get how Sterling Moore hasn't been re-signed yet. I thought he had a decent year for someone that has made the rounds as much as he has. He shouldn't be prohibitively expensive.

Moore is the type of guy you bring in after the draft and UDFA if you feel like you need another corner.

If we get Butler, we have our five corners already. If one of the young guys still have a lingering injury then you bring him in.

Really no rush unless someone else starts kicking the tires.
