It should be a straight up 32nd pick for Butler. This talk of an extra pick also being thrown in is BS.

32 for Butler or no dice.

So in the end, if we give them back their third, the trade will work out as:

Cooks and a second and fourth for Butler and a first...seems like a win/win

Any chance it's a 2018 3rd, in addition to this years' pick?

It will not be a 1st straight up for Butler. The 5th year option is so valuable now and if we are going to target Brees' replacement at 32, we aren't parting with it.

If we get Butler and don't give up 32, then the Saints have theoretically won the trade

one extra year is not more valuable than 2 potential contributors

Saints are fricking dumb if they fall for this move. That 2nd and 3rd is just pure arse raping. His value is not THAT good. You're getting ultra cheap very good player in Cooks and we're getting a good Butler but he's going to be paid a ridiculous amount of money. A 42nd pick is fair. How about they compensate us with a later draft pick if we give them the 32nd? How many people were calling the Patriots to get this guy? 2nd nothing more or pass. We have no reason to get on our knees for negotiations with a rich draft. I'd rather take a chance than have a gun held to our head with a new contract and potentially bust player in our system. At least with a new player from draft you don't pay him much. You can say you'll can't get Butler's production from draft and that's for the most part true, but you can still get a cheap great player. Butler still has potential to suck here and hang a big arse contract over our head. How's this not being used in negotiations? It's not like Patriots are just handing this guy off to highest bidder. Seems only Saints are interested.

We are trading upside for an all-pro...lets not overvalue Cooks

In a system that always has good players that often leave and just shite the bed somewhere else. It's red flags. Nobody else is banging their door down for him. They take what they can get from us or we pass. They're also risking a locker room cancer for their season. That's something else they could be using in negotiating for him. All Pro is overused. Cooks is younger than Butler and has put up some really productive seasons. The gap is not that wide especially when you consider he gets paid absolutely nothing so their risk is nothing while we're shouldering all the risk on someone who could get paid and sit on his arse because he could turn out to be a money player. Why are the Patriots so willing to get rid of him? Why were the so willing to go out and sign Gilmore when Butler was already an All-Pro.

Red

Flags. Bill going to trade rape us as usual. I think a 2nd is more than fair and they might even be getting the better end on this deal. If we trade 32nd they better compensate us with a later draft pick or one next year. I still don't understand why we didn't put a performance based trade in for Cooks and they could possibly do the same for Butler. Oh, that's right, probably because they know Cooks will have 1500 yards with Brady.

42 and 3rd rounder next year that can become a 2 ND rounder depending on performance this year. If we give the 32 we should get back our 4th rounder in Cooks deal.

I disagree if that one is slated to be the QB of the future. Having him cheap for one more year would be huge for a rebuild.
