Allen's best two years sack-wise were 2011 in Denver, and 2013 in Oakland.
2011 Denver notched 40, behind Von Miller (11.5) and Elvis Dumervil (9.5)
2013 Oakland put up 38, on a group effort with 10 players putting up multiple sacks. Lamar Houston led the team with just 6.

Both teams had 4 or more sacks come from the Strong Safety position, so we will continue to see Kenny Vaccaro contribute as we did in the final 6 games of 2015-16.

Denver did not add a single sack from a DT, while 6.5 of Oakland's came from the interior. Both teams had 5 or more from their MLB. That number should fall for us.

I think Cam should be good for 10 on his own.
If Fairley and Rankins don't combine for at least 8, I'd be upset.
I'd like to see 8-10 from Edebali/Kikaha/Gwacham.
Then maybe 4 from Richardson/Jenkins/Davison/Onyemata
Minimum of 4 from Kenny V, and 2-4 JLaur/Stephone.

That puts me at a low end of 36 (10-8-8-4-4-2).
I think we are deeper and better than that 2013 Raider team up front.

With the way we control time of possession, and force teams to play fast and loose, we just need that secondary to bend but not break, and our coverage sack numbers are gonna shoot back up.

Gibbs
38, 32, 28
Avg. 32.67

Williams
35, 33, 33
Avg. 33.67

Spags
30
Avg. 30

Ryan
49, 34, 31
Avg. 38

Avg. under Payton 34.3

For the curious.

Edit:
Also when looking at Ryan's numbers I think this shows the effect of losing Tom Johnson and having Hicks regress each year. We lost our interior pass rush and went from really good to average/slightly below average.

Every year minus the first under Gibbs (12th) and Ryan (4th) we've ranked between 18th and 25th. So we're usually average to below average, but never at the bottom.

32. This is still a bad defense

But you posted that, should we go 2-14 and get the #1 pick, we should draft a player at the only position we actually have a good starter and good depth - RB, aka not defense

i say way over 500. i mean they have to go grocery shopping from time to time, and that's 4 or 5 sacks a trip. added up over a year, i would think it would be way over 500

https://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/team-sacks-and-sack-yards/2015/

Sporting Charts Team Sacks and Sack Yards for 2015

Rank 25 Sacks 31 Sack Yards 211 Defensive Snaps 996

PREDICTION:

Rank 17 Sacks 37 Sack Yards 250 Defensive Snaps 1011

Teams were scoring too quickly on the Saints. The defensive snap count can go up, if we make it hard on opponents scoring. We need to decrease penalties on our defense and reduce chunk plays. Stop the run first and push the pocket.

And, of course, a ball control offense with a strong running game helps.

It would be nice if this defensive training drill were eliminated.

I left off Gwacham and Onyemata while making my list...they easily cover the difference for Cam's floor. Also Cam is in the prime of his career with a better line than he had a season ago while having 10 sacks. Also the 4-3 switch favors Cam sack wise.

I said it for enough years and it hasn't happened that I quit saying it. Still prolly true tho...

40+ sacks by a Payton coached team = first round playoff bye

I agree. It is turnovers, not total sacks that really make the difference and this team has been terrible at creating TOs the past few seasons.

You have to have good players in order to create turnovers. Pressure on the QB, regsrdless of it translates to actual sacks, is important to our DBs in coverage.

We had a deep DL rotation that year, let's not short change them by saying we only had 35 sacks

I think it was more downplaying sack totals equaling wins than downplaying how much pressure we got (at least my post was).

I've long said pressures are far more important than sack totals. Sure they are the best kind of pressure (unless a turnover is created), but they are only one of three types (and usually the lowest number).

Well considering there's 53 guys on every nfl roster, I'd say 53 which is far more than the 1 last year (Brees).
