combine that with the horrible drafts and that's why we are in the position we are in today

You re absolutely right and can t think of a single solid draft pick since then either. Not enough tape on this year's class yet , but I m not too impressed.

Agreed. We got so fricked with the Byrd signing. We paid Spiller more than Ingram, and we aren't even fricking using him. Browner has been outright horrible. Why the frick didn't we sign a decent WR in the FA again?

It's everything man...the free agent signings are almost all misses, we can't draft worth a shite, we pay players that aren't on our roster, we've kept veteran players past their prime.

We are missing on everything since 2011 and it will take years to undo the damage so saint fans better buckle up.

The sad things is that old man Kevin Williams has been our 2nd best FA signing.

Jason David- CHECK
Ben Grubbs -CHECK
Byrd - CHECK
Browner -CHECK
Spiller- Haven't seen enough but it ain't looking good
Hawthorne - CHECK
Lofton - CHECK
Kevin Kaesviharn - CHECK
Bunkley - CHECK
Ellerbe-CHECK
VS.

Brees, Vilma, Greer, Lewis

Now top all this off with the fact we have done nothing in the draft 8/10 years and given big bad contracts to our own guys, we are where we are. And that's on Loomis and Payton

When you whiff on draft picks like we have you have to compensate by overpaying for free agents that other teams don't want to pay anymore.

I think the issue is coaching on defense more than anything.

I also think people are forgetting guys like Sproles, who set records while with the Saints.

The fact that very few of our retained players do great once they leave the Saints, leads me to a coaching issue.

As much as people defend the coaches by claiming they lack talent to work with or bad signings, the fact remains that the Saints' defensive coaching staff hasn't changed much at position coaches.

They fired the DB coach, the one who dealt with the most issues last season, yet retained guys like Vitt despite our horrid LBer play and guys like Johnson that have had serious DL issues under his watch and a lack of pass rush skill.

Our players seem to regress as they stay on the team. See Vaccaro, Cam Jordan, every LBer, etc.

Until they infuse some serious coaching into this team, things won't change. Look at the OL since the loss of Kromer. It isn't a coincidence that the OL play has been on a downward spiral since he left, especially on the inside. They replace him with a mediocre coach that was coaching RB's, where we were mediocre to begin with and this will solve the problem.

In the end, it is the coaching. Orgeron was DL coach in 2008, and we saw the benefits of it in the 2009 season, while Johnson lives off the rewards.

Our FA signings have been bad but Unger has looked really good, albeit not sure if a trade counts with what you are trying to say.

The best free agent signing in the history of the NFL.

But I think we all know the OP is talking about the last few years.

We got lucky as shite with Drew, it was pretty much a roll of the dice between him and culpepper and we lucked out.
