The Eagles just released Evan Mathis

The Cam deal freed up around $3m IIRC. Wonder if we'll go after him.

He should in the very least get a call from the Saints.

He's been holding out because he wanted a raise over the $6.5 mil he was due this season. He likely won't be a Saint, time to move on.

He was no doubt allowed to talk to other teams to work out a contract. After that, all it would have taken was a 7th rounder to get him. He's a very good player but he's not going to break the bank at 33.

Mathis basically got what he wanted by getting cut. Risky and not guaranteed he makes up his salary.

You're right on that. Just because he wasn't >$6.5 mil, doesn't mean he'll get it. However, all it takes is one team.

God damn, he's 33? I thought he was 29 or 30 at most.

I'd like to think that Lelito or Kelemete can win that job in camp this year. Sort of seems like a reach after we let Grubbs go and he wasn't cheap either.

i mean long term Lelito or Kelemete would probably be more motivated anyway. Just a guess.

this will be a different looking team this year for sure.

That is an extremely oversimplification of what occurred

He wasn't happy making $5.5 million this year in Philly. I can't see us giving him more than that at age 33.

Drew should take a cut to sign this guy. He would be well protected and have a monster line

Sooooo, why don't you tell us the full story then?

Should I have included a daily communication log between him and Chip Kelly?

Yes, I know that Mathis was pissed because he and the team had discussed a new contract this year that would have given him, IIRC, a $6.5 base salary this year, plus the $1 mil bonus, and they revoked the offer. At the end of the day, it all comes down to more money, which he will be looking for on an open market as well. The point of my statement still stands; he'll likely seek more money than we can/will offer.
