I'm Not for giving up the 32nd pic back for Butler, but seems like the Saints have a hard on for this guy. That being said if the 32nd pic is gone then I'd trade back no more than the 20th pick and get a extra 2 & 4.
I'd rather give up a conditional 2nd rd pic in '18 for Butler if the Saints can swing that with the Pats, doubt it though. Better pass rush = better secondary play. Hope we just keep our pics and not act so desperate.

So....

You wouldn't give up an unknown, potential bust pick...

For an All Pro?

Who agreed to the trade with us? People seem to forget that a trade partner is required to accomplish what you want to have happen. Also, a known commodity vs a 1st round potential boom/bust player is a win as long as we do not screw ourselves in the money aspect.

You don't know if Butler will perform at a top notch level either ( Byrd , browner)... I would rather pay a 1st round unknown potential bust a rookie salary with hopes of developing into a minimum roll player than breaking the bank on a contract hunter

So you're saying you'd rather have a stephone anthony than a Malcolm Butler?

Browner....Byrd.....

With a rookie, you get a younger player at a much lower salary.

With Butler, you get an older player with 8 figure a year salary and with the way our FO signs free agent DB's, he likely will get hurt or not contribute.

it's called taking a chance. when you've been stagnant 7-9 the last few years, you need to take chances on free agents. I don't think CSP has the luxury of waiting for rookie players to develop on defense.

Browner cost us at least a TD every game, and Byrd ate so much salary cap that it had to affect other positions.

We've taken chances. They haven't worked out and we got screwed on the salary cap.

Just scout well and you can have a contributor that doesn't cost you $10 mil per season.

What we're forgetting is that the Saints weren't trotting out NFL caliber starters last season at cornerback, they were playing guys picked up off the street because Breaux, Williams, and Swann were injured.

The problem moving forward is, those 3 already have extensive injury concerns at this point in their respective careers. And in the cases of Williams and Swann, it's hard to imagine the Saints trusting they can stay healthy and be available all season.

So adding fresh talent at corner isn't simply a want, it's an absolute necessity. What we're trying to figure out is how to go about that. And as of right now there are two options on the table:

1. Trade for Butler, pair with Breaux as starting corners

or

2. Use draft picks to obtain 1 or 2 rookie corners

Option number one gives you an experienced corner but comes with a hefty salary. Option number two gets you a younger player, costs less, but doesn't have NFL experience.

Personally, I'm of the belief that the Saints can get away with one or two rookies in the secondary. I'm hoping that the Butler deal ultimately doesn't happen and that the Saints use the draft to select two cover guys and a top notch pass rusher.

I really think some of you people are just stupid. Just because Butler was good at the Pats doesn't mean he'll be good with the Saints. A better pass rush makes the secondary we already have better. If the Saints give up a 1st rd pic this year for Butler as far as the draft goes the Saints are New England's bitch.

Look I don't give up the #32.

Use #11 and take a DE--Barnett
Use #32 and take a CB

Use 2nd round pick and trade for Butler.

This^
Best case scenario in my opinion....
Does the signing of Okafor change #11 pick...
I still want Barnett!

So who did we miss out on with those guys? Also, We almost signed Josh Norman last year so I don't want to hear anything about messing our cap up.

And missing out on signings like Browner and Byrd does not mean Butler is going to automatically fail. Those players have nothing to do with each other. Stupid arguments made on both sides.

To be fair you are going to list the secondary players we missed on you can list the ones we hit on

Kennan Lewis, Delvin Breaux, Jabrari Greer, Darren Sharper, Randall Gay, Sterling Moore.

More hits than misses in the secondary.

Thankyou, probably the best cb we have had from the payton era is greer who was a FA at an extremely similar point in his career to butler.
