Does Travaris Cadet's performance mark C. J. Spiller's pink slip?

In two weeks at the end of the season, Cadet looked every bit of the player the Saints and we expected C. J. Spiller to be. I think we all realize that Spiller fought a knee injury all season. However, when Cadet was featured in passing situations he was clearly the better player.

I thought signing C. J. Spiller was a great move by the Saints last year and I stand by that, given Spiller's health. It didn't work out. The Saints can save $3.25M if they cut Spiller after June 1. I'm definitely okay if the Saints decide to cut Spiller and retain Cadet or at least give Cadet the chance to solidify his role as the passing back.

The Saints do need another runner behind Mark Ingram. I honestly want to be fine with that being Tim Hightower as well.

Saints GM Mickey Loomis is noncommittal on C.J. Spiller's future with the team.
Asked if he still expected Spiller to pan out, Loomis deferred, saying "I can't really answer that today." Spiller was a massive disappointment his first year in New Orleans, touching the ball just 70 times as he battled a chronic knee issue. The cap-strapped Saints can create $3.25 million in space by designating Spiller as a post-June 1 cut. It's a no-brainer move that will likely be made.

If Trump could build a wall around Ralph Wilson Stadium, he'd get my vote.

Yeah but we have other players that can be potential June 1 cute as well. Cutting spiller outright saves like 900k if I recall and 4 plus dead monies

No.

I think CJ's and CSP performance using him (knee and all) mark the end of his great run with us

We need to draft more speed in the backfield. Cadet Ingram and Hightower taint running away from nobody.

Spiller was a "healthy scratch" the last couple of weeks of the season.

Spiller's LACK OF PERFORMANCE marked his own pink slip.

Hmmmm....

Looks like he ran away from DeAngelo Hall, who had a 4.34 40 at the Combine.

Sorry but must disagree. If you think MI is a home run threat when he touches the ball then I don't know what to say.

They keep Cadet might as well give up on 2016 now, that would mean more stupidity is coming.

Let the dude get healthy and more knowledgeable of the offense, he has a history of being the slow type.

That play clearly shows he's a threat.

You don't have to have elite speed...
Pierre Thomas proved that : vision, quickness, and great power and balance through the hole gets 1st downs.

Cadet is trusted to run option routes he is trusted by brees and Payton to see (read) the same thing as the QB! He has excellent quickness ( straight line speed is not football speed)

"That play".

Let me be clear MI is a good runner and at a good price for the Saints.

He's not a game breaker period end of story!

750 attempts

2 runs over 40y
19 runs over 20y

Thats 21 runs out of 750 over 20 yards.

Do you factor in the situations he is played in? What does an explosive player stats look like?

Adrian Peterson's stats over that time look pretty nice. 1183 attempts, 52 20+ and 18 40+. But he is the focal point of his offense. We don't run that kind of system, so his numbers aren't really fair to compare Ingram to.

A team like the Patriots is a more fair comparison. Their rusher with the most attempts each year yielded the following stats from 2011-2015:

Attempts: 895
20+: 19
40+: 2

So the same "explosive" stats as Ingram, but with 145 more attempts.

At some point, people here will be able to admit that Ingram is a good back in this league. He'll never be durable enough to put up AP type numbers, but we don't ask that of him.

Hall ran that 40 when Ingram was like a freshman in HS.

Don't know why people don't get that, they are definitely tenths of seconds slower with age.

Would love to see them start the fastest man competition at pro bowl like they used to do back in the day. Or guys voluntarily run the 40, pro bowl weekend was great back in the day with the best players competing.
