Do you honestly want Brees traded?
Posted by fladohado on 9/24/15 at 12:31 pm32
I don't understand all of the trade Brees articles and what not. Just because he has an injury which he's able to get through rather quickly? In preseason everyone praised him for how good he looked and with the deep ball to cooks.
Now if he comes back from this injury and isn't the same and shows a big sign of decline I'll understand I just don't see why everyone is jumping the gun on him.

If we are going full youth movement next year, with little chance of competing, I would definitely be opened to trading him. Teams like Houston, St. Louis and Buffalo would be ideal destinations that could give us the young players/picks we need. I could make an argument that Brees in Buffalo with that D would make them an instant contender.
My heart says let him retire a Saint, but my mind is saying we should get assets if we are rebuilding.

With that salary and being towards the end of his career only a playoff worthy team would trade for him and normally they would already have a QB.
You would have to release him.
Grayson would have to be ready though and he's not. Then you could use the cost savings to rebuild the roster and pay the next franchise QB if your lucky to find him.

Jesus. He has one year left on his deal at $19.75 million.
Teams would jump all over that and try to extend him too

I am pretty hard on Drew and I wouldn't trade him. Ride that contract and see what he does next year. I think Drew still has a really good year by his own standards left in him.

For God's sake, Drew Brees is not the problem.

Depends on what we can get for him. If it's solid then yes, due to the fact that this is not a team that can win now, nor is it a piece or two from being a SB contender. We need WR, OG, and TE. We also need our 1st pick in this past years draft to progress quickly. We need a bunch on D. If it were 2009 Brees I would not feel this way.

He played in like 4 series.

Because if you wait until he has proven beyond all doubt he is done, you have waited too long. If we had drafted well in past years we could have surrounded him with competent players to make up for any slight drop offs. We haven't and that is the problem. He is still a top 10 QB and many think a trade could help the future of the franchise. Most of the people with this mindset are pre 2006 fans.

We really don't "need" a TE
Of those positions, the only expensove one is WR. OG should be able to be had in mid rounds and throuvh FA, which is why our current situation is so frustrating

And his arm strength looked just fine. He showed the ability to throw the bomb and placed it perfectly

I don't think he's the problem either. I wouldn't trade him

It was done this year and finishing off next year.
Only players worth money:
Brees saves 20mil, 7.4mil dead -> Extension
Ellerbe saves 4.5mil, 1.4mil dead -> Probably keep if he is healthy
Colston saves 3.2mil, 2.7mil dead -> I honestly think cut if he doesn't produce 800/6
Strief saves 1.3mil, 3.3mil dead -> I think cut/traded or Peat takes over if Strief Week 2 shows up and not Strief Week 1
Hawthorne saves 2.25mil, 2.26mil dead -> Over, done, replaced
Morstead saves 3.25mil, 1.2mil dead -> Extension, he's too good
Post-June 1 cuts:
Evans saves 2.9mil, 5.3mil dead -> McCoy makes him his bitch, so I'm really lost...I think Lelito is a bigger issue
Byrd saves 7.5mil, 3.4mil dead -> Injury history continues, this will be the move.
The others are players like Unger, Browner, and Cam Jordan. None of which I think are going to get cut based on their performance is pretty good..

I trust that Drew will retire when he feels he can no longer play at the level this franchise needs him to play at. I want him to retire a Saint

absolutely not

If you want Drew Brees traded, you don't understand football.

If he demands 20+M a year going forward then absolutely

Did you say that when the Colts let Peyton Manning become a free agent? Did the 49ers "understand football" when they got rid of Joe Montana?
Nobody here thinks Drew Brees is the problem. Nobody worth listening to, anyway. But if you don't want Brees traded because he's not the problem or he's the best thing to ever happen to the Saints and you need to be loyal, ask yourself this question:
Is the championship window shut?
If the answer is "yes," then you owe it to the team and to Brees to get what you can get for him when there's still value.
Or is it really worth it to keep him around for the rebuild and let him compile in a handful of .500 seasons?
For the record, right now I STRONGLY OPPOSE trading Brees. But if he was traded, I'd be down with it if he was down with it.
