No, but I do think they are concerned enough that they are not risking the franchise's long term future on it. Obviously, the Saints and Brees getting a deal done before the season is still the best path to take, but not with the guaranteed money that Brees is supposedly demanding.

I think:
#1 Drew is getting paid no matter what.
#2 Drew wants to stay with the Saints.

If Drew has a great year this season, we aren't getting any more of a discount later than we will now. This isnt 4years ago when we were trying to beat the mad signing rush They know what the market is. However, if we pay Drew now and he regresses, then we aren't tied in to a redonk contract.

I think it's nothing more than the fact that Loomis is a terrible GM, has no clue how to manage the salary cap and since getting very lucky early in his tenure here has been the most overrated GM in football.

He is terrible.

False

This team will have to move on from Brees sooner rather than later...age is definitely a factor. Brees is the greatest player to ever wear the Black & Gold but all good things come to an end. If they can sign him for a reasonable number, great. If he wants $65 to $70M guaranteed money, you have to let him go. IMO

b) allow the Saints to move on from him worry-free?

Regardless of regression of not

We should be straight up shitting out pants when we move on from Drew Brees.

Drew Brees is not regressing. I believe they will sign him soon to a contract extension. Hopefully they will extend his contract after preseason after the 53 man roster is finalized. Which of our backups can step in and lead this team and give them any chance at a winning season. Drew holds all the cards and sits in the best position, all he has to do is sit back and wait for them to come around to his terms or they can gamble on Grayson or McCown

He doesn't hold all the cards. He has to risk his future contract on his health this season if they don't come to a deal.

if not all the cards then he has a very favorable hand. I agree his health is important to a future football contract but don't forget he came to New Orleans after an injury. He has a good hand and he has a good chance of cashing in on another big contract.

That injury has not hindered his ability to play. He has gone on to set several Saints franchise and NFL records. His health will play a major role in any contract negotiation but if he remains healthy I expect him to sign another contract that will pay him the money he deserves. Whether he is in N.O. or not the man will get paid.

No, but it hindered his 2006 contract and was the reason he signed with the Saints after getting franchised tagged. He's talked about how he felt about playing on that franchise tag.

The whole point is the RISK

Yes, that is my point. He's taking that risk. I have little doubt that he'll play at a high level if he doesn't sustain a major injury.
