I've heard a lot of Saints fans saying that we need to run the ball more. I decided to look at games where Ingram carried the ball 15 times or more. 15 is kind of an arbitrary number, but a 15 carry a game pace would equate to 240 carries a year, good for 12th most in the NFL between clear bellcow RBs like Jordan Howard and Shady McCoy. We're also only looking at Ingram because he is our best back and should be receiving the lion's share of the carries moving forward.

In games where Ingram carried the ball at least 15 times, we scored 35 points per game.

In games where Ingram carried the ball less than 15 times, we scored 24 points per game.

It wasn't always that Ingram was ineffective or we were in catch up mode- 5 of the 8 games with less than 15 carries saw him average 4 YPC or more, and only 1 of the 8 games was lost by more than 1 score.

Yes, I do think we need to run more. But Payton is right about game flow.

Carries are gonna go up if we're playing with a lead more often. Obviously, in games like yesterday's carries are gonna go down. So, a better defense would allow us to run a lot more.

He does pass on running sometimes and on entire drives/going five wide when it's early in the game and when running has been effective. He should take a look at that. We're at our best with balance.

10 running plays in first half and build a lead
2 running plays in the second half and lose the lead

Yes we do. We have a good RB who averaged 5 per carry on the season but he just barely got over 1000 yards.

If anything they should've run more to keep the defense off of the field.

Yes we do. It's called balance and it helps the playcalling pass blocking and the defense and the TOP.
