noteworthy story from ajc-

They won 31-10. Don’t be misled. Until a touchdown with four minutes left – set up by an interception from Jimmy Clausen, who seems destined to join his older brother in the insurance business — this was a sloppy, emotionless and dreary 10-10 game from midway through the first quarter until the final minutes.

Think about that going into the rematch against New Orleans in two weeks.

Think about that going into the playoffs.

The offense, after touchdowns on the first two possessions, produced only one field goal and a turnover in the next six.

The defense allowed Carolina to rush for 212 yards – by far its biggest total of the season. Jonathan Stewart ran for 117 yards in the second half alone (133 overall).

Linebacker Mike Peterson picked the adjective: “Embarrassing.”

What he's saying is that without the mistakes that were handed to them, it would have been a 10-10 game, and Atlanta is not as good as the fans think.

Yeah, I have been hearing this since the 3rd week of the season. I wish they would as a team decide they are not good and lose a game.

gots to read...

10-10 game from midway through the first quarter until the final minutes

AFTER Atl scores 2nd TD at 6:54 of 1st Qtr, from that point the scoring was 10-10 until 4:46 left in the game. So for about 49 minutes of the game Carolina was toe to toe with them pointwise.

212 yds rushing allowed to the worst team in the league. Not a dominant performance at all if you look past the score.

birds score off cats bumbling incompetence more than defenseive dominance or mutliple long drives-

Carolina fumbles, loses ball on first play at 26
Atlanta TD 3 plays later

Atl 9 play 73yd TD drive

Atl 18 play 64yf FG drive

Carolina turns the ball over on 4th & 4 @ 49,
Atl 5 play 49yd TD drive

Clausen intercepted at 16,
Atl 4 play 16 yd TD drive

Atlanta punts 7 times and has one INT

Atlanta is barely winning each game. The game against Carolina had a larger point margin, but the writer is correct. Atlanta is not as good as people think by looking at the record.

That is what people were saying about the Saints at the end of last year, but they were wrong. The Saints were DOMINANT the first half of the season, and were then devastated by injuries. They got everyone healthy for the playoffs and they rolled. Atlanta has been healthy all season and are barely winning.

I think they wear out. I'm predicting losses to Seattle and New Orleans, the Saints win out and win the division, and we secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs again.

You are what your record says you are.
I don't think anyone will confuse them with the '86 Bears, but they are good.
Saints fans need to worry about our own business. Hopefully we see them in the playoffs, in a dome, where we are comfortable.

saints fans seem to forget that in week 4, Carolina was up on NO 14-13 until a carney fg put em ahead late in the fourth. I'll take an ugly 31-10 win anyday.

Seattle will beat Atlanta next week. Atlanta has to fly from one coast to the other and play a desperate Seahawks team. If the Saints can take care of business against Baltimore, the game @ Atlanta will be for home field throughout the playoffs.

Ravens is an early game (confirmed it won't be flexed). Take care of bidness then watch the seachickens declaw the dirty birds late.

I will take close wins any day over a home loss to 5-8 Cleveland and road loss to a 4-9 undrafted rookie QB, Arizona team

it wasn't even that ugly. up 17-0 really early and just coasted.

people seem to always say "yeah they were given points from the other team's mistakes." but then when it's convenient for your team, you say that you forced mistakes and shite.

QFT. A win is a win is a win. If not for a stupid false start, we end up in overtime last week against the Bengals. We're better than Atlanta, but you don't get to 11-2 by luck. 6-2, maybe, but not 11-2.
