Was it Lester Earl who posted his draft grade for why we shouldn't have picked him....?

we took Thomas, so it's not like we blew the pick.

I guess we could've traded back in and took Debo instead of Bell but it would've cost more.

21 (52). Atlanta Falcons: Deion Jones | Grade: D
(Pick acquired in trade with Houston Texans)

The Falcons were looking to add speed to their defense and Jones certainly fits that description. The problem is getting blocked too often in the running game and missing too many tackles when he gets to the ball carriers (105th in class in tackling efficiency, missing one of every 6.5 attempts). His overall grade ranked 129th among linebackers in the draft class and he was the 250th player on the PFF Draft Board on athleticism alone.

He caught an easy tipped pass and ran to the end zone with no one in front of him.

I think that is sticking out in your mind. I don't remember anything else he did.

What was his grade Monday and the other games for the Falcons?

PS I'd take Mike Thomas over Jones every single time.

He has been great for us. Exactly what we needed, a linebacker that can actually do well in pass coverage. He might be performing as an average linebacker at best when compared to the rest of the NFL, but that was much better than we had and with only 3 games of experience.

Best of luck to Deion. He is very quick but a bit undersized. I like what we have in Michael Thomas.

This. From what I've watched of him over 3 games he:
a) Took over the starting position
b) Is good-to-great in pass coverage, given that he's a rookie
c) Can get caught sleeping in zone run schemes and easily gets blocked, however, he sometimes shows up and can shed blocks and help make tackles.

Well lucky for him, our offense doesn't run much and our D can't slow anyone down.

Sounds like a Steele problem. He can play

i doubt that one play is the only reason he is defensive rookie of the month

Yep typical Payton pass on defense for offense. He thinks we can win games by just outscoring the other team. He doesn't give two shits about the defense.

You can't spend every pick on defense. We've been investing pretty heavily into the defense too.

9 of our 14 draft picks in the past 2 years have been spent on defense, and all 9 of those guys were drafted in the first 5 rounds. Take away the 2 7th round picks spent on running backs, it goes to 9/12

Having an issue with taking Thomas is just silly.

2016
1st - Sheldon Rankins - DT
2nd - Michael Thomas - WR
2nd - Vonn Bell - S
4th - David Onyemata - DT
7th - Daniel Lasco - RB

2015
1st - Peat - OT
1st - Anthony - LB
2nd - Kikaha - DE/LB
3rd - Grayson - QB
3rd = Williams - DB
5th - Davis Tull - OLB
5th - Tyler Davison - DT
5th - Swann - DB
7th - Murphy - RB

And what does that have to do with my post?
