The medical recheck of Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers last weekend showed signs of potential long-term arthritis and some weakness in his surgically repaired right knee, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday.

Flanagan also explained in the statement that Bowers' procedure, performed by Dr. Larry Bowman, included some elements of microfracture surgery but was "very minor." Flanagan said Bowers "was off crutches and bearing weight only three days after surgery" and received an endorsement from noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, a member of the medical team overseeing the player's rehabilitation.

Microfracture surgery is zaps a player's athleticism. The surgery is almost a death sentence for a player's career & pretty much the reason Bowers did nothing with the Bucs. The Texans will be lucky to get any production whatsoever out of Jadeveon Clowney.

First they bring in a 34 year old an kick his tires an now a DT with bad knees. The one bad pick in the draft was the trade up for the CB when they had enough depth at the position. He may not even crack the 53 roster. The plan was to draft 2 DT/DE an only one was drafted. They could have stayed at pick 187th an picked the underrated DT/DE from Southern Mississippi.

Didn't Sharper have it? Vilma was rumored to have had it, but not sure it that was the case or not.

Payton in a interview before the draft stated the need to draft Two big DT/DE type players as Saints were very short in numbers at that position.Walker was lost to Lions an Deaderick not resigned they only had 6 players on roster which when i checked NFL teams rosters pre draft was the lowest of all NFL teams.Deaderick for a low cost option for vet camp depth still may be signed.

Ah.
Well lets hope a healthy Jenkins and a undiscovered gem in the UDFA class shows up this year to help.

From the talent consitently coming out of Clemson the past 6-8 years you'd think they shoulda won about 4 national championships

Yes he did. After the 2009 season. In 2010, he only played in 8 games & wasn't very effective.

Vilma was rumored to have had it

No, Vilma didn't have microfracture in 2007 with the Jets despite the rumors saying that he did.

quote:

Jets star linebacker Jon Vilma had knee surgery last week, but it wasn't the precarious microfracture procedure as had been speculated.

It's a case by case scenario, some guys want to make it more than others. Frank Gore had two Microfracture surgeries done on both knees and he turned out just fine. Bowers as always been defined as a lazy since his college days. So not many believed he would make it back to form after tearing up his knee.

I believe Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure on both Gore and Adrian Peterson.
