Dallas Cowboys 1st round

Okay, I think we all can agree that Dallas wanted Kenny Vaccaro, and when the Saints selected him, the Cowboys obviously didn't have a backup plan. They ended up taking a center that they could have waited and gotten in a later round. Why didn't they just take Elam, who was still available when they picked late in the first round, if safety was one of their pressing needs?

Yeah they goofed. They could have gotten quality interior linemen later.

I'm sure they had a board of players they wanted and he was the highest at the time. It's not like they pulled the pick out of their arse.

What suntiger said....To think a professional organization didn't have a board with players ranked and panicked because one player was gone is absolute lunacy. I don't think Jerry Jones is the best G.M. but is far from a complete moron. You don't become the owner of the Cowboys and a billionaire by being a complete moron. That being said I still hate the cowboys

I mean, yeah, of course they had a board of ranked players and what not. But to pass on Eric Reid and Matt Elam, the 2 safeties ranked after Vaccaro, and then draft Travis Frederick, who may very well become a solid lineman, still, they probably could have gotten him in the 3rd or 4th round. Obviously the Cowboys saw enough in him to draft him with their 1st round pick, although for sure it's a reach.
Jerry Jones is just like Al Davis, an owner who meddles WAY too much in the personnel department, when they should just stick to what they know best, being a businessman and owner of the team. No offense to Mr. Davis (RIP) but if he would have allowed qualified people to do their jobs, the Raiders may have actually been a decent team for the past decade instead of terrible every season

as a cowboy fan i cant wait for Jerry to kick the bucket..he saved the cowboys in the 90's and has held us back since 99..still doesnt keep me from rooting for the cowboys just makes it hard on me
