Two offensive linemen so far and I know my boy is coming (sig pic). Maybe this org. should go O-line with first pick, we seem to do pretty good when we draft them.

5A Morten Andersen (1982-1984)
Drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 4th round (86th overall) of the 1982 NFL Draft.

Andersen and Barnhart

For the Saints he attempted 389 field goals and made 302 field goals. (77.6%) He also attepmted 418 extra points and made 412 extra points. (98.6%) He had 22 FGs that were 50 yards are longer. He made the Pro Bowl 7 times. (6 times as a Saint) He has 1,318 points for the Saints and is the all time scoring leader for the Saints. He has 2,544 points in his career which is the most points in NFL history. He has also played in 382 games which is the most in NFL history. And that's just a drop in the bucket of how many records he holds. He went on to play for a few other teams who will not be discussed. I'll just say we may have let him walk a few years too early.

In January 2006, Andersen was inducted as the first member of the Danish American Football Federation Hall of Fame.

On November 6, 2009, Morten Andersen was inducted into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame.

5B Wayne Martin (1989-1999)
Drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 1st round (19th overall) of the 1989 NFL Draft.

A lifelong Saint, Martin had 82.5 sacks, 1 interception, 12 forced fumbles and 531 tackles.

He's 2nd in Saints history in sacks and 4th in tackles.

He made the pro bowl in 1994. He had 5 seasons with double diget sacks and probably would have went to more pro bowls if he didn't play the same position as Reggie White, Clyde Simmons, John Randle and Charles Haley.

Martin Was Introduced Into the "New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame" with Jim Dombrowski.

Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee in 2011
Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame (2007)
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame (2009)
New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame (2008)

Roaf was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and attended Pine Bluff High School. His father was a dentist and his mother, Andree Layton Roaf, was the first black woman to serve on the Arkansas Supreme Court.

The New Orleans Saints drafted him with the eighth pick of the first round in the 1993 draft. The draft pick was acquired from the Detroit Lions for the rights to Pat Swilling.

In 2009 Roaf took his first coaching job, as the offensive line coach at Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California

Today, Roaf, six years removed from his NFL retirement and seven years after the last game he played in 2005, lives a quiet life in Southern California. He owns and manages apartment buildings there as well as in Kansas City

"I think he's just very humbled," Phoebe said, "and feels like it's quite a blessing and privilege coming from a high school in Arkansas that wasn't necessarily known for producing football standouts and not having a lot of interest by major college teams, to then go on to have the longevity in his career."

"He's elated about it," Andrew said, regarding Roaf's enshrinement. "He deserves it. He's a humble giant. He was never outspoken. He took the good with the bad and put his best foot forward. Now we feel he's finally justified doing it the way he did."

Can't argue with the HOF!

what many forget about this pick is how we got it...

Swilling had just come off a 10.5 sack year. He had 54.5 sacks in the prior 4 seasons. The contract talks broke down and they traded him for the #8 overall and a 4th. Pretty sweet transition! That would be similar to the Jets letting Revis go and they get Mingo with the pick from TB and then he turns into a HOF player.

I'll be honest. I forgot that until I looked it up.

We got Willie Roaf and Lorenzo Neal with Detroit's picks.

With our original picks we got Irv Smith, Reggie Freeman, Derek Brown, Tyrone Hughes, Ronnie Dixon, Othello Henderson and Jon Kirksey. Jeez!

#1 Rickey Jackson (1981-1993)
Drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 2nd round (51st overall) of the 1981 NFL Draft.

I actually saw one of these at the gas station this morning. :csb:

For the Saints he had 115.0 sacks, 7 interceptions, 38 forced fumbles and 1,104 tackles. In Saint's history, he's #1 in sacks, forced fumbles and tackles. When he retired from the NFL, he was the third all-time leader in sacks with 128.

6 time Pro Bowler (1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1992, 1993)
4 time First-team All-Pro Selection (1986, 1987, 1992, 1993)
Super Bowl champion (XXIX)

#57 New Orleans Saints Retired

First Saint in the Pro Football Hall of Fame (Inducted 2010)

In his 13 seasons as a Saint, Jackson missed only two games, a result of an automobile accident in 1989.

In 1997, Jackson was inducted into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame.

I feel like you should have included Tracy Porter somewhere on this list. Made arguably the 2 biggest plays in Saints history and nobody knew who the hell he was when we took him.

Danny Abramowicz.

In 1967, Danny was drafted in the 17th and last round by the New Orleans Saints. Danny's NFL career spanned eight seasons. Some of his accomplishments include the NFL's leading receiver and All-Pro in 1969. Danny was voted to the Saints Silver Anniversary Team. Danny is a member of the following Halls of Fame: Louisiana, Saints, Sugar Bowl, Sports Faith, and National Polish.

(below is from Wikipedia)

His career lasted from 1967 through 1974. Abramowicz had his most productive years while with the Saints. In 1968, 1969, and 1970, he ranked in the Top 10 in the NFL in two categories: receptions and receiving yards. Additionally, in 1968 and 1972 he was Top 10 in receiving touchdowns. His best season is generally considered to be 1969, when he caught 73 passes for 1,015 yards to go along with seven touchdowns. For his efforts, he was voted as an All-Pro by the Sporting News and Associated Press. 1972 would turn out to be Abramowicz's last full season with the Saints. Two games into the 1973 season, he was traded to the 49ers, playing two sub-par seasons. Abramowicz attempted to catch on in 1975, reporting to camp with George Allen's "Over the Hill Gang", the Washington Redskins. However, he did not make the final roster.

Over his career, he played 111 games, caught 369 passes for 5,686 yards and 39 touchdowns. Upon his retirement, he held the NFL record for catching at least one pass in consecutive games: 105.

Nice list. Cool to see some of those older guys.

I might argue a bit with the order. When you draft a guy in the top ten picks you expect him to be good. When you get a gem out of somebody after round three, that is exceptional work (and some luck)! So I think relatively picks like Eric Martin, Marquis Colston, and Jahari Evans should be a few spots higher.

I actually moved Colston up a little based on him being a 7th rounder.

That being said, I put a lot of emphasis on Hall of Fame, Pro Bowl apperances, years with the Saints and stats ranking in Saints history. I just don't know who I could have put Colston in front of. Maybe The Great Dane, but he's a long time Pro Bowler and Saints scoring leader.

And that's kind of why I left Abramowitz off. His stats in Saints history are behind Colston, Horn and Martin. He's up there though.

good job again

Abramowicz is worth a mention. When ya think of stats remember the NFL passes 50% more than during his career. He also played his entire career in 14 game seasons, not 16.

He led the league in receptions in 1969 with 73. That would have been good for 24th place last year.
