With Jimmy gone, Colston is now Brees' security blanket.

Ha, was gonna say the same thing.

I'm on the Coleman pain train.

Really excited about the WR group, although young and unproven, you know Brees is gonna Brees

Drake20 has always thought Coleman was going to make the team.

Coleman was missing significant time at that point in the thread and hadn't cemented himself ahead of Toon.

This is probably the most important week of Training Camp so far, and it looks like Coleman is playing great

quote:

He had a good week. Isn't he hurt presently? He's undrafted and hasn't played a down. He's more likely to get cut than be our #3 WR.

Hope he's that good though.

And I still think it is a stretch to call him our WR #3. I think Morgan, Colston, and Cooks will have that role due to their blocking and skill sets.

We're going to be running a lot of sets with at least 2 burners in it like we did with Henderson and Meachem. That means we're going to see a lot of sets with Colston, Cooks, Morgan, and Watson.

No, he said Toon was currently ahead of Coleman & that Coleman was at risk of not even making the roster.

quote:

Cooks, Colston, Toon, and Morgan are all very likely to make the final 53, imo.

...that leaves Saunders, Seantavious Jones, the other Morgan, and guys like Snead, etc.

Saunders had a role on this team last season...Jones got called up last season. Reports are he's looking good as well.

Coleman's big and he's looked good, but he's no lock.

quote:

Coleman will have to stay healthy and perform in the preseason games to be the 5th...maybe 4th WR.

...people talking about him being WR3 after the first week of camp is crazy to me.

quote:

he most likely won't be the #3 WR.

Nick Underhill also put this out today.

quote:

DEPTH CHART CLARITY: In other practices, the Saints have rotated the personnel at wide receiver that it has been impossible to get a grasp of how things are shaping up. On Wednesday, Brandon Coleman was the clear the No. 3 receiver and he received no snaps with the second team. Brandin Cooks and Marques Colston were the only other players to get this treatment.

If I had to set a depth chart for the receivers, based only on what we saw today, it would look like this:

1. Marques Colston
2. Brandin Cooks
3. Brandon Coleman
4. Joe Morgan
5. Josh Morgan
6. Nick Toon
7a. Willie Snead
7b. Seantavius Jones

Which wasn't crazy at all a few weeks ago, especially since Coleman was once again missing time. And guess what, even if Coleman leads the NFL in receiving yards this year, it doesn't mean he was a lock to make the team a few weeks ago.

He's been completely rational about Coleman.

quote:

Nick Underhill also put this out today.

Well stop the fricking presses. Guess it is over

From the OP:

quote:

Analysis: Coleman didn't get an offensive snap in the first half of the Saints first preseason game but is expected to see more action in Week 2 against the Patriots. Momentum is building for Coleman to win the No.3 role. He's battling Nick Toon but for now it appears Coleman's job to lose.

That doesn't sound like he had the job wrapped up to me

Now this comment is absurd:

quote:

He should be at a minimum the team's No. 3 receiver if Colston returns to full speed and If Coleman remains on the same trajectory.

Not this:

quote:

he has a good chance to make the team...he's not a lock.

he most likely won't be the #3 WR.

...no need to twist my words

I'd be pretty surprised if Joe Morgan gets cut. He seems to be having a good camp and is a proven deep threat. I'm all for cutting Toon in favor of the other guys.

That original thread is from just last week, right before the preseason game, not from a few weeks ago.

Not really actually.

Sounds like he was limited against the Ravens for precautionary reasons to me. You know, like teams tend to do in the preseason with players they expect to play a high number of snaps during the regular?

Ah, but just in the first half. Makes sense

So instead you have them play with the backups, for 21 snaps, even though Colston wasn't playing.

And yes, saying "at a minimum" is still absurd

10 days ago and he was out at the time

“I talked with him afterwards. I think you’ll see him. He is healthy, and there was no specific rhyme or reason,” Payton said. “Obviously, there are a lot of guys at that position, but he has been playing too well, and we feel like you’ll see him get a lot of work this week with the ones. You’ll see in the game Saturday with the ones.”

quote:

And yes, saying "at a minimum" is still absurd

Sounds like Payton likes what he has in Coleman & wanted to get a look at other receivers early in the game against the Ravens starters.

quote:

We've always known Marques Colston and Brandin Cooks would be the top two in the order. There's no longer any real argument which player sits No. 3: Brandon Coleman.

Sure Coleman still receives reps with the second unit and below at times. But the most popular three wide receiver sets through camp involve the "Three Cs." It's been this way since early in training camp and there's no reason to believe they would change direction.

quote:

he was out at the time

He missed 2-3 days of practice. It wasn't like he missed a week or two. Whatever he missed those practices for obviously wasn't for anything serious.

quote:

The New Orleans Saints' offense was lacking quite a bit of firepower in Sunday's late afternoon practice, with receivers Brandin Cooks and Brandon Coleman and running back C.J. Spiller all watching from the sideline, based on reports from those in attendance. The good news is that none of the injuries appear serious.

quote:

Spiller and Coleman were sidelined late last week, but both appear to be on the mend since they were dressed for Sunday's practice. They did some work but did not participate in team drills.

that isn't what he said at all. I think he didn't play in the 1st to motivate him, but hey keep looking for those hidden clues to support your argument.

There had only been 8-9 practice days at training camp when this thread was made. So if he missed 3 days, that was a pretty large % of training camp at the time

Do you understand what the word minimum means? I guess, since that is the minimum, he's really gunning for the #2 spot. frick, he could be the #1

Also, no one said he wasn't going to make the team, just that as of 10 days ago, with only a handful of training camp practices out of the way, he wasn't a lock and certainly wasn't a lock for the #3. Also, if he makes the team and does become the #3, it doesn't change that.

Payton said. “Obviously, there are a lot of guys at that position, but he has been playing too well

If you can't read between lines of that statement then something is definitely wrong.

Ahh, so because he missed a few days of camp, it automatically put him back behind the other receivers? Gotcha.

So Payton talking Coleman up all offseason while continuing his praise into camp along with his impressive start to camp, didn't put Coleman head & shoulders above the other receivers battling for spots? Payton also mentioned Jones a lot this offseason but so no one is placing him as a roster lock.

Why is it so hard believe what's being reported & what's coming straight of the coaches mouth? Is Payton crazy or lying? Are all the media members part of a conspiracy of feeding us false information? I don't think so.

Where did I say that? It would, however, mean that he hadn't yet had the time or opportunity to LOCK in his spot in training camp.

Why do you feel the need to twist others words to support your argument?

Once again: no one said he wasn't making the team, just that he hadn't locked a place in, especially at the #3 spot, after 5-6 days of training camp

Holy frick

Why don't you try and actually read what I write instead of trying to create an argument that lets you suck your own dick.

By using your reading comprehension skills, Coleman is actually the #1 receiver since you said he's a #3 at a minimum
