Yes, because Ellis was notorious for his high motor and love for the game.

Anthony McFarland 6'1" 300 out of LSU.

He turned out pretty damn good. See how easy that was to find someone with same measurables that succeeded at same spot.

Watching his highlights, he looks like exactly what the Saints needed. He gets off blocks and gets penetration. Like one of the ESPN analysts mentioned, he uses his hands extremely well to separate and he gives effort to get to the ball.

Very good pick. A- for a first rounder at #12.

anyone hung up on his size is out of touch

I hate comparing to a HOFer but I do see some Sapp-looking penetration by this guy. I'm hoping by mid season we are looking for nicknames for his success. Penetrater sounds good.

I'm ecstatic. It's one thing to prefer Lawson more, but if you hate this pick you're probably a moron.

Is it a deep class at DT? Sure. But never every DT is created equal (NT/3tech/5tech, mental make up, etc), so why not get the best player at this position when it is a huge need?

Pretty pumped that we're entering the 2nd and Reed, Robinson, Dodd, Lawson, and Ogbah are all still on the board.

The "it's a deep class" argument isn't a good one. I don't think there's another DT in the draft with his combination of run stopping ability and pass rush minus any red flags.

Exactly. People spout that line like they are all interchangeable, when that couldn't be further from the truth.

But they are all the same because the class is deep Pat. DEEP!!!!!

Such a horrible argument. Clearly this guy graded out much higher with us than the others. And for good reason.

Everyone keeps complaining about comparisons to Sapp or Donald because athletically he is behind those guys. So I compare him to more of a longer armed, more athletic Jurell Casey.

A longer, more athletic Casey wreaking havoc on the interior would be awesome on this team.

Rankins didn't have a Twitter account until after he was drafted last night. That shows you the type of player he is. Business like could be the next Geno Atkins

I thought the same thing when I saw this last night. Great point. Dude doesn't get caught up in all the superficial bullshite, and that's a huge positive
