The offseason acquisitions combined with this draft and Rob Ryan ensure that our name will be in the championship hunt until the end of the Brees era.

The way we have assembled this defense and the type of players we are bringing in is truly remarkable. One of the qualities I have always admired in Payton is his ability to not be stubborn in his coaching but see what works and mimic it.

Payton's ability to see what Seattle did to us, and then the next offseason mimic their model, is a testament to his commitment to winning as opposed to sticking what you've always done. He did the same thing in hiring Ryan after his Cleveland defense shut us down.

It's like Payton thinks in terms of "if they can stop my offense then I want them to be my defense," which is a testament to great coaching.

Under Ryan, and due to Payton's ability to let him do his own thing, our defense has become young, talented and appears to be developing their own identity as a unit as opposed to the past when they were always the weak link.

Kudos to Payton. I have higher expectations for the Saints immediate future than I have really ever had before.

After seeing what Seattle did this past year, I didn't really think we'd have a chance against them unless we got them in home in the playoffs. We've improved more than I though.

If we get them at home we win. Our offense is superior and with the addition of Cooks much more explosive.

We are just now beginning to build a defense like theirs as well. I think we surpass them within the next two years. And if we get them at home in the playoffs then next year.

Of course, this is assuming the apparent (I say apparent because of our lack of focus on the line in the draft) development of our offensive line.

In order to win on the road (especially against a physical defense)and in bad weather, you have to have a stable running game. We haven't done anything this off season in that area. Maybe Ingram and Robinson can provide that stability and create a running game that won't require Brees to throw 30 passes all of the time; maybe they won't. We'll see.
