That the saints will be stuck at 7-9 until Drew Brees retires and after he retires we will be Cleveland Browns level?

Well I hope the first 2 are. I wouldn't mind a T somewhere in rounds 3-4.

At this point it may be getting too late. Not many players can come in and make an immediate impact. Lightening would have to strike multiple times, so to speak.

So if you figure this years draft will help 2-3 years from now.... how much does Brees have left?

FA may be a better bet at this point.

No.
We don't know the first defensive FA yet.
Nor do we know what guys and how they pan out that we pick in the draft after the 3rd round.
We also don't know if the say 1st and 3rd picks being on defense turn out to be complete heading to the Hof dominators.

A guard and two pass rushers in the first 3 rounds is no cause to burn tickets....yet

QB and OL can't be eliminated at any spot for now.

Depends on what happens in free agency

Oline needs to still be addressed. I think we got lucky this year but age is a factor.

that is what I was thinking.

I am fine with 1 dip for the offense with one of the first 3 picks as long as our 1st is Defense protected.

if we went OL in round 2-3 with 1 pick I would not be complaining. I know a lot of people want to go RG in FA and it is a good year to do so. However relying on Strief and not having a backup plan for him at this point is kind of irresponsible.

I would like to lock on a RT in this draft to groom as an eventual replacement. Depending on what is done in FA depends on how soon we can address RT.

I honestly think we need to evaluate our players, cut all the fat and just rebuild.

I want defense too, but remember we have some guys coming back who were injured for all or part of this season so we could be in really great shape

2 of the 3 need to be defensive, again. If you told me we were gonna do something identical to last year, I'd be happy

1st: de
2nd: guard/corner/lb
3rd: guard/corner/lb

There aren't a lot of guys drafted that turn a team instantly into a playoff contender. If we are talking 2-3 years from now then yes.

We need to see what we do in FA.

Some really talented linebackers and DB's coming this year. We need playmakers at each level on this defense.

I like what I saw out of a lot of these LB's in these bowl games like the guy from Penn State was a monster and plays with an edge.

I'm tired of looking for diamonds in the rough. We need to draft some guys who have done it on the big stage and get them on the field asap.

I mean, we have two high draft picks at each level of the D. More than half of our starting unit, in theory

Vaccaro/bell/Williams
Anthony/kikaha
Jordan/rankins

The problem isn't that we don't draft defense, it's identifying (or developing) talent/injury risks.

1-3 should be strictly defense.

4th round is where we take a RT.

Then if we spend our money wisely in FA on defense then I will be happy. We can possibly snag a JPP or Stephon Gilmore if we wanted.

I'd rather have JPP or a proven edge rusher in FA and then draft some LBs, but that's just me.

I understand why people want this, but that just isn't how it works. If we are relying on 1-3 rookies to come in and turn things around immediately we are already screwed.

I hope its D but we also have to see how we address needs/depth in FA, and who is available when we pick each time.

Assessment is invalid until after we see how the team approaches free agency first.

It's like they don't even pay attention to the games they watch. The majority seems to be stuck on the mindset that the defense is lacking so much in the talent area, that they completely ignore the fundamental & schematical errors that plagued the defense especially in the secondary this year.

Vonn Bell was the epitome of this. You can see the potential talent & instincts he possesses but he was consistently out of position & reading the wrong keys all season long. He was the sole reason we gave up a lot big pass plays because he was out of position a lot. That's one negative about youth & inexperience. Yes, you get better physical talent on the field but you better be prepared to deal with the numerous inevitable mental errors as well.
