Can I just say how criminal it is that we never gave Brees more.

I know it's been discussed but I was just looking over his numbers as well as other factors and it really kills me.
5,365/8,085 = 66.4 Completion % (1st in NFL all time)
428 Touchdowns (T-3rd with Tom Brady all time)
60,903 Yards (4th all time)
He's nearly 2,000 yards ahead of Brady and if Peyton Manning retires, Brees would be the all time leader in 3 years if he plays that long. Manning sits at the top with 71,940 yards. Obviously Brett Favre and Dan Marino aren't adding to their totals anytime soon. Even crazier is the next active player after Brees and Brady is Eli Manning at 44,191.
Now to look at a history of all the players Tom Brady, Peyton Manning have had to throw to. Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski, DeMaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, Julius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and numerous others.
On the opposite side, the Saints have only had a defense in the top 20 in 3 of his seasons here. The year we won the Super Bowl, we were ranked 25th overall. Imagine if the Saints had the Texans defense or Packers defense, the Chiefs. We don't even need a Broncos or Jets defense.
Brees has 38 game winning drives which ranks 6th all time. He could possibly catch up to Manning who sits at 56 if he retires. Not sure about Brady who sits at 48.
Flip over to offense and we've been outside of the top 5 ONCE in his career here. We were 6th in 2010. We were number one in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014.
Truly one of the all time greatest QB's to ever play the game and my god, does it piss me off how we never gave this man a consistent defense to help get him to the top more often.

Defense has been the struggle
and it's amazing what we've done on offense as a unit considering a lack of superstars (outside of Brees)

It's not for a lack of trying. It's been complete incompetence.
We hate Gregg Williams now, and he sort of went crazy towards the end, but he at least knew what he was doing. We made the playoffs every year with him and only been back once since he left.
Obviously there's more to it than his departure, but it's a big part of the equation.

Very hard to argue this point.

I don't. He is responsible for the best years we ever had under Payton.
People who hate Gregg Williams have misplaced hatred. You should hate Roger Goodell and that slimey rat frick ceurullo.
Under 3G we were the scariest team in the NFL.
Bountygate and Goodell butt fricked this franchise. And I hope Goodell burns in hell forever getting fricked by a pineapple covered in fire ants.

Williams was a 1 trick pony who's trick had been figured out. People knew we were just going to blitz all the time and the turnovers just weren't happening like they were in '09. We made the playoffs because of how prolific that offense was. I love him for '09, but it started to wear off quickly.

who knows might have happened with a fewmore drafts or dfree agent pickups.
Fact ofthe mmatter is we were legit contenders and the team to beat each year. Then Goodell took our franchise at the peak of its golden age poised to start a dynasty and butt fricked it into the ground. People forgetthat was only 2 seasons ago.
Never fforgive and never forget Goodell single handedly ruined this for us
.I hope his dick falls off and he gets raped by demon forever

Yep it's a damn shame we could not put together at least a middle of the pack defense consistently so he could have had more success in the post season. This administration cannot draft defensive players to save their life, cam Jordan is the exception. The rest are average at best and when they are not at their best they suck. Maybe Dennis Allen is the answer and needs a year or two but window on Brees career is almost shut it better happen within the next 3 years or it will be a very long time after Brees retires

Doesn't run our ascouting department or draft our players.
But maybe JeffiIreland is the answer

Williams was a one a trick poney probably because he knew he had to blitz because in 2011 the pass defense was just that horrid. Even though the blitzing was mostly ineffective, it gave him a better chance to succeed than just dropping back in coverage with a four man rush. Like other posters have said I am glad Williams was here, since he helped orchestrate that 2009 run. But, it is truly a shame that Payton could not supply Brees with a consistent defense that is at least average.

How? 1 Super Bowl and 3 playoff appearances. You can't argue with that. He made the defense at least good enough, and that takes knowing what you're doing.

Was 2011 the preseason where we destroyed San Fran and we just knew this defense was going to wreck shop?
Great how that season ended

Does it not make sense that if did have a good defense we wouldn't need drew to pass 50 times a game which means he wouldn't have these high numbers.

Still not too late. Lets turn this around with the draft this year and let Brees get at least 1 more SB run in the next 3 years.

He should be paid as least as much as the top archer in the country. period.

Or it could mean more stops and more possessions for the offense and possibly better stats?

THIS!!! ALL OF THIS!!!! What Roger Goodell did to this organization is fricking criminal. Not to mention there are other defenses that have ACTUALLY targeted players on the field and delivered hits much more vicious.....and they do not draw the ire of Goodell. Seattle being the main culpret, and Carolina is up there as well.

He'd likely have a much higher Passer Rating...
Hell, maybe even more TDs

11 years/160 Million in direct Tom Benson Money pending more
3 years/33 Million in Sponsorship money since 2013 LINK Not sure how much he made before then
1 Super Bowl/1 Super Bowl MVP
8 ProBowls - with Saints
2 Offensive Player of the years
6 Time Passing Yard Leader
4 Time Passing TD Leader
He went from 1 time Probowler to 1st Ballot HOF. We have helped him create quite a bit for himself actually. However in relation to what you are saying...yes it sucks. However Dan Marino and several other greats never even got 1.
