"Government takes half. Agent takes 4%. Left with 9mil. Wife leaves him, takes half plus alimony and child support. Left with about 4 million and that's if his now ex wife did spend blindly during the marriage. 20 mil doesn't go very far."

This judicial system is awful. Just another form of high end welfare. Chase athletes until one gets you pregnant and then live the high life. It's pathetic the court system doesn't see this. I mean, the woman and child deserve enough to live comfortably, but that shite is ridiculous. Alimony? My god, get a freaking job you ho. Be a good example for your child instead of trying to bleed a man dry just cuz the courts say you can.

There needs to be a cap or phaseout to required child support. It sucks that it is a non deductible expense to the father and tax free income to the mother. He has to pay taxes on that $600,00 when earned and then give $600,000. At the minimum there should be at a floor for child support to be deducted, such as first $3,000 per month child support is non deductible to payor and non taxable to payee with excess taxed at a progressive rate. That has to be alimony disguised as child support. The mother is definitely taking a huge chunk for herself.

Is this just because of the fact he was making an NFL salary?

Almost 600,000 in child support? How many children over how many years? That seems excessive. Does the kid eat gold?

Well, according to the article in the OP... In 2014 Meachem agreed to pay $20,000 per month for child support. He failed to pay and was taken to court in 2015 - that is when he made the first payment of $200,000.

Dude was married for 6 years and had two kids. His last contract with San Diego was for a guaranteed $14 million. Dumb-arse should have made an offer of a lump-sum payment to the mother and eliminate any future payments.

For reference -- $20,000 X 12 $240,000 per year. Estimate the youngest child at 3 at the time of the settlement (my guess)... that means he's paying $240,000 per year for 15 years -- $3,600,000.

Considering he had guaranteed income of $14,000,000 -- taxes reduce that to about $9.5 million. Kids (and ex) get $3.6 million. That left him with just under $6million -- just from his last contract.

Not to mention, he gets a decent NFL retirement payment.

Is it excessive, yes. But he and his dumb-arse attorneys created the mess.
