I liked the Ingram move at the time.

I liked it. I thought they gave up a bit much for him. A late second and future first was expensive, but ultimately I was happy to land him

Don't get me wrong, I like Petty... a lot, but do I like him enough to waste a first rounder when there is so much depth in the draft at several positions of need?

Frick no. I wouldn't mind biting on him in the third or fourth though.

We have mucho holes so i wouldn't be for chancing a QB pick in the first round. Theres no guarantee we will ever get another QB like Brees so go all in for the next three years.

I'm ok with the ground up rebuild we will have after Brees.

On the flipside, if they think Brees is just about done then do what you gotta do.

That's just it. If they do too, then they need to gauge when he will most likely be drafted. Since QB's are always overvalued in drafts, he will more than likely be a 2nd-3rd round pick. If they like him a lot and see him as the future, then picking him in the 1st may be the best option.

Let me put it this way. They plan on drafting him in the 3rd, but they get wind that other teams in the second are targeting him. They then decide they need to use their 2nd round pick to grab him and not chance waiting until the 3rd for fear of missing him. Now a new scenario presents itself, because we draft at 44.

If we take him at 31, which is 13 picks higher, we will get the 5th year option on him. This is miles more valuable than waiting 13 more picks to grab him. Now if they believe he isn't worth taking in the 2nd round, then they won't even consider him in the 1st. Basically if they have him at a 3rd round grade but believe he's worth taking in the 2nd, then the 1st round at 31 would be a great spot to get him.

I think I just went crosseyed

They kept saying all week that he has been moving up on draft boards. Many of you keep saying you'll be so pissed off if he is our second pick. If our staff truly sees his talent and believes he can be Drew's successor, why not? That's their call to make, and I trust their judgement more than anybody's on here. Any pick that isn't an obvious one to make, I don't love nor hate. I wait until it pans out and then make judgement. Maybe the 5th year option for first rounders is big to them. So, draft Petty at 31 if you think that's the right move. Who am I to judge?

44 would be my limit I think. I guess it just depends on the buzz. Could potentially move up with 44 and 75 or 78. That wouldn't bother me if they see a future replacement in him a few years from now.

If you are willing to draft him at 44, then you really have to take him at 31. That fifth year option is miles more valuable than the 13 picks between 31 and 44

Winston, Mariota, Hundley and Petty will all be drafted before the mid 2nd. You got a lot teams that need a QB for right now. Bucs, Jets, Bills, Browns, Titans. To think that Petty goes undrafted is just asinine.
