the big thing to me is the way that the players have fought this thing and haven't backed down. they aren't afraid to speak their minds on the matter. If they had not said anything and just accepted everything, I'd feel more inclined to think they did something foul.

oh and congrats on another shitty thread. You've really got the hang of this

Suckbucket, 100% hands down no doubt about it. Jizzy is a stupid frick but he is actually a saints fan, and despite his stupid shitheaded troll posts, he remains a knowledgeable football fan.

The hate for Brees on this board is hilarious at times, you'd swear were stuck with like Jay Cutler at QB

What does this mean? You believe that is where they are headed? You won't follow them (but others will) if they do? That somehow having an opinion contrary to consensus on a message board will make any difference?

I do not think that is where they are headed. I will follow them even beyond the current golden age. I respect Brees speaking as straight forward as he sees it. Some folks prefer to shut the frick up, put their tail between their legs, and hope poppa snake Goodell doesn't kick them again.

I'll respond to this because in a sea of reactionary myopia, you are perhaps the most reasonable and unquestionably the most informed voice on this board.

I have been a Diehard Saints fan since John Gilliam returned the opening day kickoff to paydirt in our inaugural game in our inaugural season. I Valued my #46 Danny Abramowitz jersey above all possessions as a kid. I lived through the torment and torture of the 70's and 80's, survived Big Ben and a host of other tragedies at the hands of the hated falcons, Watched the inadvertant whistle snatch Elo Grooms fumble recovery and Victory against the Vikings. From the ineptitude of Tom Fears, J.D Roberts and John North, to the sad sight of Bum Phillips and Mike Ditka selling our future down the river for some beat up old nags or a pothead RB. Through Mora and the Dome Patrol, I've dreamed about glory through Haslett and Aaron Brooks, and cried after we reached the pinnacle with Payton and Brees

I've been a fan through it all and will remain a fan come hell or God Forbid, High water again. I've been bleeding black and gold longer than most of Saints Talkers have been alive

I love Drew Brees and what he has done for this city. I love that he has taken up for his team, is a Players Association leader, and has the respect of the entire Players Union.

At what point however, does enough become enough? This is a serious question, and while I'm happy to be a therapeutic punching bag if that's what frustrated saints fans on this board need to brighten their day, hope springs eternal with the thought that someone will address my question, which is:

What tangible benefit to the New Orleans Saints, today, in 2013 and beyond, comes from Drew Brees continually attacking Roger Goodell at every opportunity? How long does this albatross hang around the collective neck of this organization before someone cuts the rope, tosses it away, and looks to the future.

Tangible benefit? Most likely none. I for one, however, believe there is substantial value in standing up for what you believe is right. Brees believes the Saints were heinously wronged. The whole thing is far from over, so he voices his opinion about it.

My question to you: why do you care? What difference does it make to you if Brees wants to lambaste Goodell every opportunity he gets?

Based off of what Goodell has already done to the Saints, you think it's beyond comprehension that he may punish the Saints again or Brees in some way if the opportunity arises?

I say shutup and try to win our remaining games.

While it may have some benefit to the Saints, it is much more about him being the executive head and spokesperson for the NFLPA.

The honest answer to this question is the day Goodell leaves his job. He is a horrible commissioner and he has done nothing good for the game from a fans point of view. From a players point of view he is a ruthless dictator ruining the way they make their livlhood, sacrifycing their intrests for a profit and ruining the sport they love

So just roll over, take it up the arse, don't say a word and maybe it wont' happen again?

No sir. I sure wouldn't, and I'm glad Brees, Vilma,Vitt, et al aren't either.

You didn't say all that to begin with. Your original post had one glaring sentence.

quote:

But then Drew is all about TEAM right?

That sentence set the mood for the rest of this thread. That was a direct attack at Brees about the holdout during the contract negotiations. Which has nothing to do what you started this thing off with. If you think he needs to shut up, fine. But why insist he's greedy at the same time when he's clearly running his mouth in support of his team?

That's the issue I had with how you approached it. But it's not your job to impress me or anyone else. Just like it's not my job to agree with you.

I care because I am a Saints Fan. Not a Saints apologist, a Saints Sunshine pumper, A Saints Wish upon a Stargazer. But a Fan. The Kind that Boos, Cheers and obsesses, beyond reason, about this team

I Truly believe that this sordid sorry affair has bled the life out of this team. Why prolong and exacerbate it further?

You are absolutely right. It was a needlessly provocative way to vent my frustrations.

Good point and to you sir:

Because the name if this team has been tarnished. Brees believes it has been unjustly tarnished and apparently feels compelled to make that known until he is satisfied that the Saints name has been untarnished as much as it can be.

Furthermore, as Breesus pointed out, the issue of Goodell being commissioner impacts the entire NFL, not just the Saints. His damages are more far reaching and by all accounts will only get worse.
