Brees impressed with Marcus Williams(link inside)

LINK Brees talks about Williams in this link
My observations from the New Orleans Saints defense at their OTA on Thursday at the team's training facility in Metairie:
--Marcus Williams took advantage of Vonn Bell's absence to get multiple reps with the first team in the nickel defense. The rookie free safety from Utah had one of the day's highlights when he made a leaping break-up of a pass from Drew Brees intended to Brandon Coleman. Williams has made a strong early impression on his teammates, both offense and defense, with his outstanding range and overall athleticism.
--It's always difficult to judge pass rush ability in non-padded practices, but the Saints were putting some serious heat on Brees during team drills. Alex Okafor and Obum Gwacham each hurried Brees into incompletions. The Saints also had a pair of successful blitzes from Damian Swann and Therezie Robinson.
--Rookie Alex Anzalone is seeing early work in the Saints' nickel packages. He's going to get a chance to show he can cover tight ends and backs out of the backfield. That's a good early sign for the rookie.
--Stephone Anthony and Craig Robertson were the men in the middle for most of the sub-packages. As Saints coaches have stressed, you can't read too much into what players are working with what units at this this of year, but the Saints clearly are giving Anthony every chance to make his mark under new linebackers coach Mike Nolan.
--Hit of the day was made by bowling-ball safety Therezie Robinson, who lit up scout-team fullback Chase Dominguez after he made a short catch in the flat. Like all OTAs, this was a non-contact practice, but Robinson laid the wood on the rookie to the delight of his defensive teammates.

So we signed backup AJ Klein to starter money to play backup for us? oh lawd this FO

I assume he'll be in the game when we run a 4-3. He's supposed to be legit against the run. I thought Klein was the most questionable signing in free agency, but we'll know more by the time preseason arrives. I wouldn't be surprised if he worked out for us. Obviously Ellerbe, Robertson, & probably Anzalone are our best cover LB's(maybe Te'o as well if he's healthy). I see Anthony as Klein's competition to see playing time. I think everyone expects Ellerbe(when healthy) & Robertson to be the 2 LB's on the field when we run a 4-2-5. They're both above average at stopping the run & in pass coverage.

After Lattimore, Williams might be my favorite draft pick. He's a ball hawking S that can get turnovers, very intelligent. I expect him to be here a few years.

He's probably my favorite pick. He was projected as a 2nd-3rd rounder by internet scouts, but based on his play...I thought he was easily a 1st round talent. Apparently some teams gave him a 1st round grade.
He really doesn't have a weakness as a prospect. He's not a big hitter, but he's a very efficient tackler. He gets the job done. Either Williams or Hooker is the best in pass coverage in the entire draft(Hooker has issues tackling sometimes though). Budda Baker is good in pass coverage as well, but he's more of a slot guy & run stopper(he's also pretty short). You could easily make a case that Williams was the #2 safety behind Jamal Adams, & I've read that some teams thought he was.

In all serious though I've watched the Marcus Williams highlights a million times and think this guy was an absolute steal at 42. I think he's going to be a big time player. He's got everything you want in a ballhawk FS, incredible range, can absolutely thump as well

Agreed. I thought Adams at #6, Hooker at #15, & Budda Baker at #36 were good value. I think Williams at #42 was better value though.
Jabrill Peppers at #25 & Marcus Maye at #39 weren't good value compared to the players above imo.
I thought Justin Evans at #50, Obi Melifonwu at #56, & Josh Jones at #61 went right about where they should go. Personally, I think Obi Melifonwu is the definition of boom(due to physical gifts) or complete bust city. I didn't want any part of him or Peppers. Don't really understand some people's infatuation with Marcus Maye as well.
We needed a safety & I think Williams was the perfect pick based on the other options.

Same here.
Malik Hooker was known as having elite ball skills and the best ball skills in the draft, which he did IMO. But Williams is very close to Hooker in terms of ball skills. The guy is a flat out ball hawk with great range as a center fielder. Which is exactly what we need. Perfect fit next to KV.

Fine/sacrificed picks coming soon.

The fact that Dominguez can also play fullback & blocking TE makes his chances of making the team as our LS higher.

Not to threadjack, but if this kid can get past the concussion issues, he will be a strong contributor. He made plays at UGA, and was starting to make them in the pros his rookie year. His rookie year was cut short and last year was a wash, all because of concussions. If he can overcome that, 3 yrs in the league and natural instincts could bode very well for us.

TDjbeebus we deserve an unexpected big time contribution from Swann. I'm not banking on it but I think he and the Saints are due a big break. He did look good his rookie year
