Brees has a lot of good to say about Thomas; other OTA takeaways

Long video but worth the watch. Brees talks about what he's seeing out of the team in OTAs. He had a lot to say about Michael Thomas' quick development. Also mentioned Peat is stepping it up.
He's impressed with JL too, which is good news for us.

Observations
Harris show: It was another solid practice for wide receiver R.J. Harris. His standout moment came when he caught a pass down the sideline with one hand over a defender. But he stood out several other times, winning both on deep passes and in traffic.
Other Harris: Erik Harris had a nice pass break up on a ball to Coby Fleener.
Kicker comp: Kia Forbath connected on field goals from 34, 39, 45 and 52 yards. Connor Barth appeared to miss from 45 and 52 yards.
Rankins flashes: The first round pick had a pair of nice interior rushes. One of them would have resulted in a sack. The other, at worst, was a solid pressure. One of those came with Nick Fairley also playing inside on a third-down rep.
Injuries, absences on the line: With Armstead and Strief out, Andrus Peat got reps at left tackle. Tyrus Thompson received reps with the first unit at right tackle. Senio Kelemete and Tim Lelito worked as the guards. Peat was said to be among a handful of players battling the flu.
Linebacker reps: Craig Robertson worked in the middle and Nate Stupar was on the weakside. Stupar had a very nice blitz.
More flashes: Brandon Coleman had a very nice catch on a vertical route. On the next play, Michael Thomas got behind prevent coverage by beating a corner down the sideline. Fleener made a handful of contested catches.
Grayson solid: Grayson looks much more comfortable than last season. You can see his growth. He made a very nice throw to R.J. Harris late in the practice down the sideline. Both he and Luke McCown were almost picked off at different points, but you can see Grayson’s growth.
Ends: Cam Jordan was back to practice. He worked as the strongside defensive end, with Hau’oli Kikaha playing Jack. Davis Tull received reps behind Kikaha.

Tull officially getting DE reps...
Well not sure how DE will shake out with Jordan, Kikaha, Richardson, Edebali, Gwacham, Onyemata, and Tull all fighting for spots there.
Was hoping Tull still had potential as a LB prospect.

Great to hear, but Brees is always optimistic after OTA's every offseason..

He's not a LB. Tull is a pass rush specialist and with the crowded field he's going to have to really stand out to make it.
You probably only keep two "jacks" or weakside ends on the 53 and that will likely be Kikaha and Edebali.
Then you have Jordan and likely Richardson on the strongside.
Maybe you keep one more end if he's a standout special teamer, but we're already going to need to save a spot for Onyemata, along with Rankins, Fairley, and Jenkins at DT.
9 would be the max on DL, unless the LB depth is so bad we run with only 5. Don't really see that happening.

Tull is in a win-win situation. Either he really stands out for the Saints and makes the team, or he doesn't and he ends up having a nice career with the Patriots.

OTAs are not the place where you can get a good sense of line play.
It won't be until training camp with full pads that we'll get a sense of where they are.

I'm not much of a "I got a feeling..." kinda guy but there's sumpin special brewing with these rooks IMO. I truly think Thomas tops 70 catches & 1000+ yds. Seems like you might be able to detect some of the change in the organization the past couple of years already. That is, a very clear no nonsense business-like approach. Aren't we due for a DT more like Sapp than Sullivan?

I will never put too much stock in OTAs. I'm looking at 2014 as an example, so much hype.

From the way he plays, and the QB play he will be getting, I have to think he has a pretty good year. He really developed as a route runner and has strong hands. Dropped some balls early in his career but really got better later. Obviously having Keyshawn as an uncle you can get some tips

I'm already pissed about the weird color "gold" we are now using but I can overlook that to a much greater degree if we just FIX THE frickING COLLARS ALREADY!
