Best Offseason in Years - Greatly Improved
Posted by TigerBait1127 on 4/29/17 at 4:22 pm233
Defense (at least 4 new starters):
Secondary (2 new starters - plus injured starters):
Cut Byrd, Added Bush in FA. PJ Williams is a full go for OTAs. Re-signed Moore. Swann is still a question mark I believe. Breaux is healthy.
Added Lattimore (#1 corner), and Williams at FS. Should pair nicely with the safeties we have and lets Vaccaro play near the LoS. Hopefully we don't lose all of them to injury again.
Linebacker (at least 1 new starter):
Lost: MLB Laurinaitis
Upgraded MLB with Klein, and We'll see what Teo has in camp. Added Analzone in the draft. Injury history with high upside.
Robertson/Ellerbe/Analzone at OLB. Will be nice to let Robertson play his natural OLB position
Mike Nolan should be a nice upgrade over Vitt too. Maybe he can salvage Anthony
Defensive Line (1 new starter):
Added Okafor in FA, productive pass rusher for Arizona. Added Hendrickson and should get help with Kikaha, who's participating in OTAs. Muhammad may be able to contribute too if he keeps his head clean.
Resigning Fairley was huge plus having Rankins healthy for the year should be a nice boost in the middle. Davison and Onyemata provide good interior depth.

Agreed

Offense:
Offensive Line: Should be a top 3 unit in NFL
Lost: Jahri Evans (RG), Tim Lelito
Added: Warford at RG in free agency, big upgrade. Armstead should be healthy for OTAs. Added arguably the best Tackle in the draft for rightside depth. Strief is on the last year of his deal. Peat should continue to improve on the left side.
Running Back:should be a top unit in NFL
Lost: Hightower
Added: Adrian Peterson and Kamara
AD speaks for himself. Kamara fills the enormous hole we've had since Sproles left us. Was really the only hole on our starting offense going into the draft.
WR
Lost: Cooks
Added: Ginn
Top unit in the NFL last season. While Cooks will hurt a bit, adding Kamara and Ginn should help carry his load along with another year of Thomas, Snead, and Fleener in our system

Just a note Strief has 2 years left, but he turns 34 in Sept. I wouldn't be shocked to see Ramcyzk take over at some point this year.

You're correct. Only a $4m cap hit by keeping him in 2018 too.
We're bound to have an injury across the line like we have the past few years. Nice to have depth either way

Yeah if Strief isn't too prideful he can stick around next year if we don't need the cap. It gives us options.
But I have a feeling that if he gets beat out this year or some point before the season next year he may retire next year. I think he at least stays this year.
If he retires it won't be too hard to find a backup RT.

Still a couple of pieces out there worth nabbing in FA.
Brock
Barnidge
one of the older pass rushers (situational use)

Don't forget the best part of the offseason. Fired Vitt, Johnson, and Mcmahon.

I think people need to accept that Fleener is in our plans for at least this year. We aren't going to grab another starter.
He didn't live up to his contract, but he still had a good year for a TE. If he doesn't play up a bit this year then he very well might be cut next year given the cap hit.
And they trust Hooman to play in this offense. Losing him last year hurt.

The offseason was great when once we fired Vitt, Johnson, and Mcmahon.
The draft and FA is simply lagniappe.

More like good riddance. People wanted to avoid drafting a guard because we had Lelito. That turned out not so great.

I think one thing that's really hurt has been that we've always had some injuries, bad ones too, during training camp.
I think keeping the whole team healthy for the first 3-4 games is going to be key

We still have Jack Allen and Landon Turner.
