haltime of the Preseason vesus the New Oilers

Jay Glazer: "They just don't have the personnel. They are more than a few players short." True for 2011, 2012, and still the same 2013.

On the field right now, I agree. With Junior and Tez back, maybe. Our team is pretty healthy otherwise, but right now, we have two career long DE's playing stand up linebacker.

I'm hoping Lofton was just rusty. He looked pretty slow out there tonight.

I am still hopeful, my god they have to be better than last year but as good as Payton is with getting great offensive talent but are almost as bad with defensive talent.

This defense will be what it is, there is not much any coach could do with it. They suck against the run and the pass. What do you do?

This defense is not pretty healthy. Wilson, Galette, Butler, Coleman, Vilma, and now Smith. All injured. ALL were/are expected to play major roles this season.

I'm not sure thats a fair evaluation. Frankly we've got excellent young D line talent so we're set for the foreseeable future there.

Greer is a stud, hopefully Prob can play consistently decent (he does show flashes) and Lewis can get his head out his arse. Vacarro is a stud and already the best tackler on the team.

The problem is LB and we've had a shiteload of injuries there. Plus there'll probably be some decent LB talent getting cut from other teams soon who will see the Saints as a team that they can catch onto.

Remember what just bringing in GW and Sharper did for us in '09? We just need a break here and there and we can have a respectable D now.

Honestly it's hard to tell anything definitive during preseason one way or the other.

Things I've seen:
-the tackling overall has improved
-our d-line get's a consentent pass rush that is lacking from our linebackers
-we're good against traditional running plays, but get killed with zone rushing schemes
-we've limited big passing plays and yards after the catch

The Texans offense is hard to stop because a) they run the ball extremely well and b) because they run it so well, the bootlegs are hard to defend because the team has to respect the run.

We still have a ways to go, but we might be able to scrap something out this year.

The defense in 09 was a lot better then this defense will be. I know it is preseason, but the defense in 09 was pretty good.

They have gotten pressure on the QB with front four at times this preseason so that is something

defense looks better already.

this was against the TEXANS.. they have an extremely potent offense and we kept them out the endzone.

they even kept their starters in the entire half.

The thing to remember is that we looked this bad (or worse) last year against 8-8 teams.

We're not gonna play the Texans each week.

And let's not forget, we won the battle of the one's.

That's just fricking stupid. Every offense is not the Houston Texans offense.

Problem is that's the type of offense you have to beat if you're going anywhere in the playoffs.
