I'd love to bring him in. He's automatically better than Lelito and Kelemete.

Dang, I guess Art Fern was right; you can cut off your Slauson.

Loomis said in his presser that we will actively pursue veteran guards. This guy fits the bill.

Honestly can't say that I'm that familiar with him, but with our current Guard situation it would be foolish not to pursue him.

No doubt, there's a change of guard at Halas Hall. But Jermon Bushrod and Matt Slauson were revered in #Bears locker room. Tough business.

PFF had Matt Slauson as its No. 18 guard out of 82 last year. Top-10 in pass protection (1 sack allowed/16 starts). Turned 30 in February.

NFL is a business, and the Bears were ready to move on to a new option at guard. Matt Slauson is one of the most professional I've covered.

The #Bears released Matt Slauson, in my opinion one of the most valuable and consistent players the last three seasons.

#Bears G Matt Slauson was team's Good Guy Award winner last season. He will land somewhere.

LINKThis article about him back in February sounds promising.
quote:

Matt Slauson Grading the 2015 Bears: Offensive guard Grade: A Matt Slauson started all 16 games for the Bears and no matter what position he played, he played it well. Slauson was arguably the most consistent offensive lineman on the Bears’ roster in 2015 despite consistently needing to move for one reason or another. He started the season as the team’s left guard and was a steadying force on the left side of the line, spending most of the year to the right of second-year tackle Charles Leno Jr. But when rookie center Hroniss Grasu was injured, Slauson slid over to that spot and excelled there, too.

quote:

Slauson was the stud of the Bears’ offensive line. Entering Week 17 against the Lions, Slauson had a 98.4 pass block efficiency rating from Pro Football Focus — which was tied with Packers guard Josh Sitton for best at the position. Slauson was one of the quality low-key signings made by former general manager Phil Emery. After three years with the Bears, you can see why he was brought on board in the first place.

quote:

Throw out the 2014 season in which he only played five games and Slauson has proven to be one of the best offensive lineman on a line desperate for them. It’s fair to say the Bears’ line would be in better shape if they could clone Slauson and put him at different positions on the line. Unfortunately, the Bears will have to settle for the Slauson they have. And that is probably fine by them, especially considering the deal he cut with Emery before the Bears cleaned house.

quote:

Slauson will likely continue to be a mainstay on the Bears’ offensive line, as he is under contract for the next two years, which are his age 29 and 30 seasons. It doesn’t necessarily matter where he plays, but the Bears’ offensive line can be strong up the middle if Slauson can be teamed with a healthy Hroniss Grasu and a right guard with upside.

Cut for health concerns? I'd definitely look into that before signing him.

Slauson was owed just under $3 million this season. The move is surprising after Slauson finished No. 18 in Pro Football Focus' 2015 guard ratings, with a top-ten rank in pass protection. He allowed one sack in 16 starts, and just turned 30 in February. While the Bears are moving on with second-round pick Cody Whitehair at left guard, a good guard just hit the free agent market.

Are the bears doing something stupid here?

Or do they know something we don't?

The fact that he's good makes me believe that we won't pursue him.
