Because we lost in a dome to the Rams

I think crowd noise disrupts Brees and on this team, all things are affected by his performance. The Saints tried ear plugs, code words, hand signals..what else is there? Is there anything that SP can do..something different.

I'm so frustrated I'm imagining speakers in the helmets of everybody on offense.

call more running plays in the flow of the game, i.e., not during a monsoon or garbage time

5 yard gain? F that noise....23 passes in a row, let's do it

Never thought I'd say this, but leave Ingram in, don't change personnel so much, run a no huddle (not necessarily hurry up) but run balanced offense. Keep D on their heels, keep the from subbing and eliminate confusion and delays with our own subbing, and make crowd go nonstop if they want to be loud. Crowds get tired too, especially if you're moving the ball.

The biggest thing is the offensive game plans. We need to run more no huddle. We need to stop trying to switch up personnel groupings so much.

We also are too pass heavy on the road.

Which is what pisses me off, when the fans start the who dat chant and wave on offense in the Superdome.

They had a loud Who Dat chant going and the Dome had to put up the "quiet please" graphics to stop it.

in addition to the noise - a good pass rush from the d line is a pretty common thread between carolina, st louis, seattle and the jets

so when you do nothing but pass, youre playing to their strength: pass rush and noise, which in a way are two of our weaknesses. we have a suspect O-line (im being nice) and we have tons of personnel groupings and playcalls at the line to make them work.

But we have Drew so saying our passing game is weak is grossly inaccurate. More like our passing game has weaknesses which can be expoited by noise and a good front 4.

gotta run. it slows the pass rush, opens up play action, and can take the crowd out if we put together some long drives.

You argument re: crowd noise doesn't hold water when you look at the Rams loss. That dome was not even close to a sellout and the crowd was probably 25% - 30% Saints fans. Noise was not (or at least shouldn't have been) a factor.

The Saints have lost on the road because they have run up against good pass rushing defenses on the road. This OL isn't great and the Saints refuse to stick with the running game enough to make opposing defenses respect it. The Panthers, Rams, Seahawks, Patriots, Jets all can get after the passer well with just their front 4 or 5, and they did against Brees. Couple that with the fact that the the back 6-7 didn't really have to concern themselves with the run and your offense was going to have problems.

The Saints road woes this year have been as much about WHO they've played on the road as opposed to where they played.

As others have said, way less personnel groupings. Keep the same players in. Run more. Run more draw plays. Have more players in to chip good pass rushers when they do pass.

Score early.

What you're saying goes hand in hand with some of the personnel groupings Payton uses. Specifically, they are not disguised at all. Ingram in? Expect a run up the middle. Sproles in? Expect a screen. Go to a few base packages, let Brees read the defense and make a change if he needs to, which would also be aided by a HUNH.

Good point. We're doing the defenses work for them. Heavy packages usually mean a hard PA. Shotgun with a back next to Brees usually means a screen or a delayed hand off.

I mean it's not all bad or anything, he still dials up awesome plays. I love when he gets Watson involved in a two TE alignment. And they kill it with screens when timed right. There just appears to be no consistent rhythm on the road, save for one or two extended drives.

I agree. They need to mix up the groupings. Have both Sproles and Ingram in. Shift Ingram out as a WR and shift Sproles to the backfield. Do some different groups and mix it up. The groupings are pretty predictable at this point.

We really need a back we can just "stick with".

Good points all..I hope someone in the Saints read your input.

Alt, your point is indeed valid yet haven't we played some good pass rushing teams at home and beat their socks off...

Noise creates problems when the QB can't give the team instructions about play changes..the substitutions gets confusing..all this may be what is irritating and distracting Brees.

The Cowboys had a guy who hand-signaled the team from the sideline. Perhaps this was to relieve the QB from having to yell a play change over the noise. One team , because of noise, had each substitution group individually titled so that, with one word, the QB knew who was in.

I think the little things become big distractions with away game crowd noise. It is breaking Brees rhythm and his timing.

This. I was at the St. Louis game, and Saints fans were definitely louder (until we got down by double digits) than Rams fans.

Everyone's pretty much nailing it. As strange as this sounds, I think that us getting drubbed in Seattle earlier this season may have been a good thing. Kinda like, well it was as bad as it can be, so we're gonna just have to try some new things and play a little more loose. We just looked scared to compete on a national stage again for some reason. Hopefully it was a wake up call, similar to the Jets knocking the Pats off after losing to them in the regular season like 49-3
