1)Get more aggressive and opportunistic on defense.
Under Greg Williams we were not necessarily world class talented but the d was aggressive and they went after the ball. The d-line is getting almost zero pressure on the q.b.
2)Establish the run game. With our depleted defense the best thing to do is burn some clock and minimize the amount of time the opposition has the ball.

Look at the stats. Saints / opponents
rushing plays 58 / 89
passing plays 140 /109
rushing t.d. 1 / 6
passing t.d. 8 / 3
passing yd. 1062 /927
rushing yd. 244 / 448
avg.time of poss. 29.21/30.39

Imagine the difference of avg. time of poss. with just 8 less pass att. and 8 more rush att. per game
If you keep doing what you do you'll keep getting what you get.

Our offensive line has done a decent job in pass protection, but I don't think they are getting the push they need to have an effective run game. The only rushing yards we were getting consistently were through draw plays. Pretty telling IMO.

A team with a bad defense and no run game really is a bad combination.

the run game was fantastic against ATL but we got down 2 scores and that was it.

We will never know unless we make an attempt. The Saints are actually averaging over 4 ypc. If you maintain that avg. with just a few more carries per game. Who knows. The point is to take time of poss. from your opponents offense. That could be a big boost to the defense.

We got down 2 scores because we quit running the ball and entered our stupid a** shotgun 1st and 2nd down formations. Offense is a joke. Time to face it. It's coaching that's letting this team down, not effort or players.

17 points at halftime, down two scores, and you call the offense a joke? Next time we got the ball, it was 38-17.

After Atlanta's first punt of the game (which they ended up getting a TD off of anyways), they scored on 6 straight possessions until midway through the 4th.

Yes, I know statistically they look like a solid running team but you have to stick to your known strengths. A few drives of forcing the run game when it's just not there can get you in a bind early.

I know that a large percentage of those rushing yards came out of passing formations. I have no issue with the play calling last game, I actually think it was one of CSPs best efforts on the field. You don't have to run to open up the pass, you can do the opposite against some teams and have great success.

Agreed but one thing no one can ever accuse CSP of doing is forcing the run game. My point of utilizing the run game a little more was not for enhancement of the offense but more so to keep the defense off the field. The defense has to be kept off the field as much as possible. They are decimated with injuries. The best way to do this is to eat up the clock. You do this by establishing a run game. It is dull but effective. Long , sustained, clock eating drives. You do that with a balanced attack.
What we are currently doing is not working.
Remember we are 0-3.

Going after the ball, forcing fumbles and creating turnovers is our defense's only prayer at this rate. Same shite as last year, no pash rush to speak of.

Sean Payton hasn't been the same since he got divorced. The new pussy has taken a lot out of him.

How?

More blitzing, less help for our terrible secondary?

In case you haven't noticed the 3 man rush isn't working out too well for us.

I don't think we run a 3 man rush very often.

Everything Atlanta did was out of playaction. Our secondary hasn't been the issue the last 2 games.
