I have't heard anything about it yet, just wondering if anyone has.

Why would they do that? Isn't he under contract for another year?

I don't think it's a matter if they want to or not, I just don't know if they have the money. I think they're still 4 million over the cap, and a second round tender will cost 2 million. And they still need to re-sign Bushrod. They're already going to tender Chris Ivory. So that's a lot of money they don't have

Ah I didn't even have him on my radar. Yeah, for sure then, he's been outstanding the last 2 years. Only problems with the line have been the injuries at RT and the average play of ole Bushy Rod.

We should.

PFF says he was the best player on our OL last season.
Makes sense; we never heard his name.

False, we're right about even right now and still havent touched Vilma, Smith, or Harper.

I've been a big DLP fan his time here. He's been great.

gotta go a 2nd Rder on him or have to match what someone else might offer. NFL GMs pay a lot more attention than we do. That is, center performance. He could possibly even get a sniff by a team with the need and a low 2nd Rder. Like Atlanta or Baltimore.

Saints got DLP for a bargain. Now he is consedered around the NFL as a competent starter. Ranked in the NFL as a top 24 most undervalued player. The will tender him for sure. He has a pretty big pay day coming if his level stays like it is.

Another gem on the O line Mickey picked.

Yep. It's called the "Vilma, Harper & Smith Farewell Tour" plan. The details are being ironed out as we speak.

I'd say so. BDLP was an undrafted free agent by the 49ers in 2008. Since then, he's had 7 different stints with 5 different teams yet never once stepped onto the field of play until Kreutz went down in '11. Quite the underdog story - I hope he enjoys his payday.

Big fan of his, hope someone bites on him and coughs up a 2nd rounder, though.

As much as we would all love to have a pick in the 2nd round this year, we would be INCREDIBLY lucky to get a player as good as BDLP out of that pick. The center is incredibly important for the Saints offense, in particular. I would be very disappointed if we suddenly had that hole to worry about.

We don't have the money to re-sign every single good player that comes up for FA. The 2nd rounder would give us a good chance to select the clear cut best C in the draft (Barrett Jones) with that pick and save a good bit of money, or focus on defense with the pick and get another C later in the draft or a stopgap in FA. Whatever C we go with is going to have two very good guards surrounding him. We'll be fine as long as the guy we get isn't Kreutz-level shitty. I get that C is more important to the Saints than other teams with the way Brees steps up in the pocket, but it's still probably the least important position on the offense. Not to mention we are ridiculously good at finding OL in the middle rounds, plus centers aren't a high priority for teams, so you can typically get the 2nd or 3rd best C in the draft in the 3rd round.
