How it works:
-You're given a $12m salary cap to spend on however many rookies you can buy with that money.

-The monetary value of the players changes daily based on where they are expected to be drafted (apparently they base this off of a couple dozen "reputable" mocks). So, for example, Tunsil is the highest priced player at $4.7m. The cheapest players are valued at $450k.

-You need to click on "Draft Order" at the top and see what the actual values are for where they are drafted. I would recommend printing it out so you can easily look at it while you buy players. So looking at that, the #1 pick gets credited with $4.75m. So if you purchased Wentz at $3.5m and he goes #1, you made $1.25m. That's a great return, but you can only fit 3 Wentzes under your salary cap. Andrew Billings is valued at $1.8m. If he gets drafted by the Saints at $12 (12th pick value = $2.25m, you make ~$700k. You can fit about 8 Billingses under your cap compared to 3 Wentzes, so the return is higher.

-You only get credit for players drafted in the first 3 rounds. If you take a chance on, say, Kenyan Drake being drafted higher than his value, but he gets drafted in the 4th round, you lose all $450k that you invested in him.

-You can sell players if you think that they have gone from a good value to a bad one, then use the profit to purchase better values.

-Unfortunately, you cannot short sell players with values higher than you feel are appropriate.

-The stock market shuts down on draft Thursday and the person with the most valuable lineup at the end of round 3 wins.

How to play:
1) Immediately go to the "Trading Floor" tab and sell all of the players you own. Don't wait a day to do this. The site somehow thought it would be a good idea to have you "pre-invest" in random players. It's stupid. This will leave you with $12m to spend.

2) Click on the "Draft Order" tab and print it out. Makes things a lot easier to see what you're doing, especially if you don't have two monitors.

3) Do your pickings.

I did one of these on ST a few years ago and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the website (playthedraft.com) doesn't let people join leagues via codes, players have to be invited via email or Twitter handles. If anyone is interested, post your email or twitters and I will invite you ASAP.

I will readily admit I'm not smart enough to play this game.

To simplify it: choose which players you think will be drafted higher than most mock drafts think they will.

This was a blast a couple years ago. It seems kinda late to be starting it up, though. I feel like last time we got to start before the Combine, and it was a blast.

Also, did they add the ability to short players? That was the biggest thing I wanted.

I'm a maybe, I'll decide later tonight. I remember spending waaaaay too much time on this last time hahaha.

Maybe everyone should just join the massive public league and we can compare how well we did after the draft.
