Do you always live your life with a glass 1/2 full? Don't let your depression ruin any hope and optimism.

Hope it's McCaffery at #11.

If our past indicates anything, its that this would be the safest pick we could make.

2014 was a terrible draft - cooks then 4 guys who aren't even in the league

2014 was horrific and it led to the entire scouting department getting fired. That was the only good thing about that draft.

quote:

2015 we spent the 31st, 44th, 75th and 78th pick on Anthony, Kikaha, Grayson and PJ Williams, none who have really contributed. Our fans will still put a positive spin on those guys, when fact of the matter is there are a lot of guys from 2015 making serious impacts. 4 picks in the top 80! Cmon, this is inexcusable

This is the seasons to judge 2015. Peat will be a starter and should do well so long as Armstead can stay healthy. Sadly Kikaha, Williams, and Swann have all flashed good things but can't shake the injury bug. That's just bad luck. Anthony may finally have a good positional coach who can do something with him, so let's see. Grayson...sucked. All these players are healthy and will have the offseason and preseason to prove their worth. That draft isn't a bust just yet.

quote:

2016 jury is still out - Rankins was terrible vs the run in a small sample, Vonn Bell terrible in coverage, Ony and Lasco who knows? You cannot crown this draft yet, good or bad. Thomas is a stud, that's all we know

The jury is still out Well no shite. Are you even going to allow a rookie to develop before declaring a player a boom or bust? Rankins flashed potential. Bell looked lost but so did most of our shitty secondary. Again, new position coaches should help. Ony showed promise and Lasco got hurt, but he was a 7th round pick.

Drafts need a good 3-4 years before they are judged (2014 a rare exception)

Sounded like you were agreeing that we've " done a better job drafting the last year or two." Just pointing out that we havent as of now. So do you wanna allow them to develop or not?

Yes, so why do people expect the draft to flip a 7-9 team into some playoff team this year?

I mean if he doesn't know how to play middle linebacker by his mid 20s after lining up there for his career to this point, I don't think it's going to work out very well for him. It's not like he's some college freshman getting coached up. You are what you are by this point for the most part with some minor fluctuations.

I'm cautiously optimistic, because I'm really hoping ireland's influence wasn't fully felt until the 16 draft. I think that draft will end up yielding three starters in the first 3 picks. You can't ask for much more than that.

This is why I think it's a hilarious argument that Butler is not worth 32. If we give them 32 and he is a reasonably above average starter for us, it is well worth the pick.

Because the flip side of this coin, and unfortunately the trend for years, is we give up a 32, he blows out an ACL and we choose not to sign him to his mega-contract the following year... (and the icing on the cake is when Cooks turns into a mini-Moss with Brady )

This trade at 32 is not without risk.

Have a suspicion its Taco Charlton at #11......They trade #32 for Butler.........

Then...... they draft another DE, another CB and a OT with their second round and 2 third round pics.

According to Brees, we're drafting mostly defense, no doubt. Said so at church this am.

Here's my take on Saints drafting:

They are above average at finding later round gems.

They are terrible at wasting picks to trade up.

They're strategy of being aggressive and trading up is opposite of what they should do.

In an alternate universe our draft has already blown, spewed, and projectile vomited chunks. Just enjoy the ride.

It should be defense, but I wouldn't be upset with McCaffery or D. Cook at 11

We're not gonna know how this draft turns out for a few years. Many times I thought the Browns had a good draft (2007, 2009, 2014) but turns out to suck some BBC. But thanks baws.

I'm nervous because this is a make or break draft. If we frick this up, it's over. No more CSP and Brees will be gone

But at the same time, if we hit on this year's draft like we did last years then we will he set for success now and in the future

I think most in general have too high of expectations from the draft. If you survey league wide I think the Saints are not elite but in the upper half of batting average of hitting on draft picks. The more years go by, the more I see more luck and less science.

The only reason I am for getting Butler is the strikeout rate at DB. Not only the Saints (SJB, Johnny Patrick, PRob) but many 1st Rd whiffs at corner.
A few...
Ahmad Carrol #25
Tye Hill #15
Dee Miliner #8
Justin Gilbert #8
DJ Hayden #12
Claiborne #6
Ras I Dowling #33
Kyle Wilson #29 (yes, that one)

This draft will be a good one. It may come through trading back, but I feel like we're going to get exactly what we need at the end of the day.
