At #23 you might be talking some of these...
-a quality CB like Trufant or possibly Rhodes
-a top safety such as Vacarro or Cyprien
- Jesse Williams at NT
-OLB Jamie Collins
-ILB Ogletree or Minter
adding a #52 would put some of these names into the hat...
-OLB Lemonier or Demontre Moore
-NT John Jenkins
-Safeties Matt Elam or Eric Reid
-CBs Johnthan Banks or David Amerson
I'm thinking this thru as I read your options:
Love (6-0, 190, 4.38) Trufant
's skills, but I give the slight edge to Rhodes
b/c he is 6-2, 210, 4.39 with cover skills. Can't go wrong with either.
I've stated FS Jenkins could be replaced, but he's lower on the priority list, imo, unless you are moving him back to CB. If not, I don't know that I take FS's Vacarro
. More inclined to go after Roman Harper with SS's Cyprien
. I know Elam is short (5-10) but he singlehandedly dominated LSU & had a 4.43 forty, compared to Cyprien's 4.64.
Love OLB's Jamie Collins
(6-4, 250, 4.59) & Lemonier
(6-4, 255, 4.56). They pass rush & have the measurables I like. I'm taking Damontre Moore
off my 1st & 2nd round board. He got literally manhandled by Lane Johnson in the Cotton Bowl. Lemonier took games off in lesser matchups (though he beasted against Bama & LSU), so I'm going with Collins, who actually dropped into coverage at times & is a very good pass rusher.
I like space-eaters NT Jesse Williams
(6-4, 323) & Jenkins
(6-4,346), but since they are not elite pass rushers like Star, I'd almost rather wait & take Brandon Williams
(6-1, 335) in the 3rd round (who the Saints interviewed at the combine.)
, but I think he is a true MLB like Lofton. So I'd rather a slightly athletic ILB like Ogletree
to replace Vilma.
Going into the season, I watched Amerson
(6-1, 205, 4.35) and he looked like the second coming of Nnamdi (Raider version), then this past fall he played like Nnamdi (Philly version). Banks
has 6-2 size, but he ran a 4.61 at the combine, (but ran a 4.58 for the Saints brass at his Pro Day). Still I might pass on both in the 2nd round. (Though personally, I want to "reach" for Tyrann Mathieu
in the 2nd round cuz some team like San Fran will take him before his projected 3rd rd grade. I think he would be the perfect NB for the Saints & Ryan's would use him aggressive like Chavis did.
So based on your available prospects & my convoluted reasoning, I think I'd take these scenario's: BPA:
, 2nd rd--Reid
(move Jenkins to corner) NEED:
, 2nd rd--Elam
(I love the idea of adding a pass rusher opposite Butler & also replacing Harper)
