They need a infusion of new young blood badly in their WR corp.
T Owens would be a good pick up for the atl

I'd say get him for the low. I'm pretty sure he's pissed. He always came up big for them. Dude turns a 5 yard slant route or 10 yard crossing pattern into a 40 yard gain. Not afraid to go across the middle and has a great pair of hands.

Didn't expect that. Knew they'd show Steven Jackson the door, but figured they'd keep HD with Roddy and Julio's injury issues.

Wow, what the frick?! This is a TERRIBLE move by ATL!

Dude played damn good for a WR #3 and when Julio and Roddy get banged up, he steps in like a BEAST as a WR #2.
fricking stupid UNLESS he was just asking ridiculous amounts of money?!

ETA: On 2nd thought, just read this little number
quote:

The move is projected to save the Falcons some $3.5 million in cap space, meaning they've freed up about $7 million just by cutting Douglas and Steven Jackson.

That works for me!

Maybe, but can you get his production for less than 3.5 Mil? I guess you'll find out.

It was a good move. Our wrs are old, and we were paying him a lot to be a #3 wr. Hell, Hesters has only had a year in ATL and was the #4 wr for us and had just as many tds and 50 less yards.

Now we can draft a young guy and get him mentored by Julio and Roddy, all while saving money for some D players in free agency.

Here is the thing, Julio and Roddy can mentor someone all day, but in the end, they probably won't draft a guy who is 6-4, 220lbs, ran the 40 in 4.39, can jump out of the building, and ran every route in the route tree coming out of college.

And honestly, you mention Hester...dude will be horrible next year. Releasing Douglas was music to my ears, as a Saints fan. Now, go sign Deangelo Williams to continue Atlanta's run of signing washed up players to 3 year deals.

This is my favorite quote, because this is the exact same thing all saints fans were saying last year, and look what happened. Thing is, we have 4 years of Roddy and Julio together to find a great wr they can mentor. In the mean time, whoever our #3 wr will benefit from teams focusing on Julio and Roddy like HD has the past few seasons. I love HD, but he is just an average WR who benefited from flying under the radar and wearing womens deodorant.

I am just happy that Harry is gone from your team. Hopefully everything ended on bad terms and he has blacklisted ATL from future destination spots.

He is 30 years old. I'm sure he will try to find a team to sign him to a long term contract and it will be his last.

Hopefully he doesn't try a 1 year prove it deal as a teams #2. I don't think that'd be a good idea for him.

OK but you have to admit that Hester benefited from being the guy Rob Ryan was least focused on of the four guys on the field. He'll probably still do fine with Rub forced to focus on Julio and White, but on balance, this is not going to be a good thing for Hester's production (IMO), other than the fact that he will probably get more balls thrown his way. But as a Falcons fan, I bet you'd rather have Douglass trying to turn 5 yard routes into something than Hester.

I can agree with that. I do think he is better than average though.

What happened? He had 500 yards, 2 TDs (receiving) and will carry a +3 Mil cap number at 32 years old.

Think you get that long out of Roddy? He's 33, turns 34 during season, and only has 2-3 years left on contract.

Not disputing what you said, just wondering your thoughts on how much longer you will have Roddy for.

I dunno, hester impressed the shite outta me as a WR last year. Maybe it was a fluke, I dunno.

The loss of Douglass hurts, that's obvious BUT for the amount of $$ saved, I understand the logic and agree with it.

As a Falcons fan, I hate to see him go. But it just makes sense. Whoever we put in at the #3 and #4 will burn teams because they will be so focused on Julio and Roddy.

Hopefully, we draft a Cooks style wr in the 3rd or 4th who will be made for the slot. Fresh legs hitting that 5 yard slant would be optimal.

Was about to make the exact same point. His cap hit this year is $3.7M, if they cut him they could save $2M from the cap. Although, I would expect him to stay on for at least 1 more year.

I also wonder if the surge in DH as a WR has to do w/ playing under the radar, or having a HUGE step-up in QB play by leaving Cutler for Ryan.

You're right, 2 to 3 years. I'll go with 3 because I see him staying a season more than he should. Roddy loves the game and will stay till he is forced out.
