Nothing really new or surprising, just some off-day reading material.

LINK
quote:

New Orleans Saints

“Want to know how good Drew Brees really is? His receivers are not as dynamic anymore, the running backs without Darren Sproles are not special and the offensive line is very, very ordinary. It’s all about him and head coach Sean Payton who have worked together since 2006 (with the exception of the suspension year in ‘12).” …

“Marques Colston provides a big target, but cannot run anymore and Lance Moore was released, so a lot of pressure will fall on second-year WR Kenny Stills who flashed during the back half of the 2013 season and first-round pick Brandin Cooks out of Oregon State. Cooks should be electric in this system and might be an instant star in the league.” …

On ATL
quote:

“Aside from QB Matt Ryan and WR Julio Jones, the Falcons really have a below-average roster. With TE Tony Gonzalez retiring, WR Roddy White on the decline, an injury-plagued Steven Jackson and an offensive line that is questionable at best, it’s a bit of a pipe dream to expect Ryan to deliver a Super Bowl to Atlanta.”
quote:

“Age has hit this team and in a division where pressuring Drew Brees and Cam Newton is mandatory for success, I’m just not sure how they get back to the playoffs with no defenders that scare anyone.”

The weird thing I've been seeing Panthers and Falcons fans hang their hats on is their offense/defense wasn't really good last year, and they lost a lot of people from those squads that departed, so they'll be better by subtraction.

That only works if you had more talented players waiting in the wings, or you added clear and significant upgrades, and even then, they'll take time to grow into the system and build chemistry with the unit.

I didn't know he couldn't run. What happened to Colston's legs? Has this injury been discussed?

Khiry Robinson is seriously going to shock people this year.

Marques never could run. That's not his game. Hes a big target who isn't afraid of going over the middle. Speed never was his game so idk why that scout says he's not good because he's not fast.

sure he could. The scout's point is that he has lost a step, and he has.

Wanna know how I know that this scout doesn't know anything about ATL? His tell is in the following quote:
quote:

“Age has hit this team and in a division where pressuring Drew Brees and Cam Newton is mandatory for success, I’m just not sure how they get back to the playoffs with no defenders that scare anyone.”

Huh? The Falcons are one of (if not the) most young teams in the NFL. Unless he was stating that "age has hit this team" as in young as hell. Which he wasn't, which shows he doesn't know much.

He may stumble into being correct and the Falcons *could* suck this year... but not for the reasons he listed.

Darren Sproles wasn't that special the last two years either. We got way too predictable with him in the game.

He's a good route runner. That'll have to be his strength now.

MC never was a speed guy like Cooks, but that's ok, because even if he's lost a step, he's still big, still has good hands, and still goes over the middle. It actually helps his longevity in the league. His problem will be when he can't stay healthy because of the hits, then his days will be numbered.

What Colston really excels out is finding the soft spot in zone coverage.

He was stating it in regards to the pass rush

quote:

They were the 16th youngest team in the NFL last year

Idk. Maybe he was talking about last year. It was pretty old last year.

Yeah, all his assets are things that don't diminish with age, king of like Tony G. If he can stay healthy, he should be able to play several more years, even if not as a starter.

it will be interesting to see how Colston does now that it appears that he is healthy again.

notice how at the end of last year he posted some good numbers against Carolina and then Seattle in the playoffs. His foot wasn't bothering him anymore so low-and-behold he made some noise.

I hope other teams start to count him out. All that guy does is consistently deliver despite some nagging injuries here and there.

New Orleans re-signed RT Zach Strief and it’s amazing that this will be his third contract because he is ‘just a guy.’

guess that guy isn't a fan of Pro Football Focus.

What other reasons would the Falcons suck for besides a shaky OL, lack of playmakers on offense, no passing rushing threats, and a subpar LB group?
