Know your Saints. Bryce Harris #79
As an undrafted free agent out of Fresno State, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons on May 2, 2012. On August 31, 2012, he was released and signed to the practice squad.
He was later signed to the active roster of the New Orleans Saints. He's appeared in two games with one start on November 25, 2012 where he was unable to finish the game due getting injured in the first quarter. On November 27, 2012, he was placed on Injured Reserve due to his broken leg injury.
An article about his PT against the Raiders. LINK
quote:
When Bryce Harris was tossed into the fire against Oakland, he fulfilled the one Saints motto that transcends seasons and coaching changes.
He was the next man up. And he didn’t blink.
quote:
Days later, the reviews of Harris’ first-ever NFL snaps were positive.
“I felt like he did a very good job,” Brees said. “He was very calm and comfortable, a lot more so than I felt like typically a young guy getting his first action would have been.“
quote:
“I think that he has picked our stuff up extremely well,” Evans said. “We have a lot of nuances in our technique and he’s really on top of that stuff. He has been really on top of that stuff, has a really good grasp of the offense.”
#78 - Elois Grooms was a Defensive End drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 3rd round (63rd overall) of the 1975 NFL Draft out of Tennessee Tech. He played for us from 1975 to 1981 before going to the St. Louis Cardinals then the Eagles.

Thanks for keeping it going, been a busy week. Good news though, I think we are 72 days now.
Joe Owens (as if you couldn't tell) was a defensive end drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 9th round (215th overall) of the 1969 NFL Draft. He played a year for the Charges then played from 1971-1975 for the Saints. ???
also, on the current roster...
#72 Terron Armstead
Chosen in the third round (75th overall pick) of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was an All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) selection during his final three seasons at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. At the combine, he ran a 4.71 sec 40-yard dash, which is the fastest 40 yard dash time of any offensive lineman at the combine since it first began in 1982.
Yesterday I went with Armstead. How about today I go with the guy he is competing with.
#71 Charles Brown A 2nd round pick (64th overall) by the Saints in 2010. Has played well and is a good player, but has been injured a lot as well.

Zach Strief's bio from the Saints page:
quote:
This former seventh-round draft pick has successfully held down the starting right tackle position since the retirement of Jon Stinchcomb in 2011. In 2012, the former Northwestern standout contributed to a front line that only surrendered 26 sacks, tied for the third fewest in the league, while also helping the offense finish ranked second in the NFL in net yards per game (410.9) and third in scoring (28.8 points per game). After serving as a capable reserve at both tackle positions, as a blocking tight end and on special teams for his first five seasons, Strief has been able to use his tremendous size and strength to his advantage as the starter on right side. He’s played in 94 career games with 30 starts, and is expected to anchor the right side of the offensive line again in 2013. Strief is also one of the Saints’ most community-minded players, involving himself in numerous charitable and educational programs and events.
Here's a Friday Twofer
Dave Lafary was a 5th round pick (118 overall) in the 1977 draft by the New Orleans Saints. He played Tackle from 1977-1986.
Del Williams # 61
Was a Guard for the Saints from 1967 to 1973. Was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 3rd round (79th overall) of the 1967 NFL Draft.
From Wiki:

Delano Roger Williams (November 9, 1945–November 30, 1984) was an American football offensive guard in the National Football League. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 1967 NFL Draft. He played college football at Florida State.
Williams is a member of Florida State's All-Time Team.
Williams died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or sometimes referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease).

#60 Brian de la Puente
BDP's NFL career:
San Francisco 49ers (2008) UDFA waived
Kansas City Chiefs (2008) practice squad/waived
Seattle Seahawks (2009) claimed/cut/practice squad
Carolina Panthers (2009) practice squad
San Francisco 49ers (2010) waived
Seattle Seahawks (2010) practice squad/released
New Orleans Saints (2011–present) practice squad/starter
quote:
De la Puente was signed to the Saints practice squad on October 15, 2010 and spent the rest of the season there. In 2011, Saints starting center Jonathan Goodwin left to join the San Francisco 49ers, and the Saints signed longtime Chicago Bears star Olin Kreutz to replace him. De la Puente filled in effectively when Kreutz was injured early in the season, then found himself as the starter when Kreutz unexpectedly decided to retire in mid-season.
Thanks Coco
And yeah, I think signing DLP will be right behind signing Jimmy Graham next year. After reading about how he came to become a starter, you can't help but admire his dedication and hard work.
