QB: Adrian McPherson (5th round 2005)
RB: Antonio Pittman (4th round 2007)
RB: Troy Davis (3rd round 1997)
FB: Ray Zellars (2nd round 1995)
WR: Larry Burton (1st round 1975)
WR: Lindsay Scott (1st round 1982)
WR: Wesley Carroll (2nd round 1991)
TE: Irv Smith (1st round 1993--tough one)
OT: Charles Brown (2nd round 2010)
OT: Sam Holden (2nd round 1971)
G: Royce Smith (1st round 1972)
G: John Shinners (1st round 1969)
C: Matt Tennant (5th round 2010)

DE: Jared Tomich (2nd round 1997)
DE: Shawn Knight (1st round 1987)
DT: JOHANTHAN SULLIVAN (1st round 2003)
DT: Al Woods (4th round 2010)
LB: Rick Middleton (1st round 1975)
LB: Alvin Toles (1st round 1985)
LB: Les Kelley (1st round 1967)
LB: Reggie Freeman (2nd round 1993)
CB: Alex Molden (1st round 1996)
CB: Patrick Robinson (1st round 2010)
S: Chip Vaughn (4th round 2009)
S: Rob Kelly (2nd round 1997)

K: Taylor Mehlhaff (6th round 2008)
P: Russell Erxleben (1st round 1979)
KR: Tyrone Anthony (3rd round 1984)

NOTE: It was really hard not to pick any Saints LB from the 2000s on that list. I didn't realize that the Saints were that historically bad at picking LBs that all those guy would be on the second team.

Not even close. There's so many to pick from, I know, but Wuerffel shouldn't be slighted. He earned this spot!

I agree. McPherson was injured by a golf cart driven by a guy in a costume who was probably in the arena league on a team that McPherson threw 37 TDs against.

Changes to the above...
QB - Dave Wilson - 1st round in supplemental draft
RB - Vaughn Dunbar - 1st round bust
RB - Ray Zellars/Mario Bates - 2nd round
LB - Reggie Freeman - 2nd round
S- Jerod Cherry - 2nd round

Another excellent choice.

Semantics. I chose McPherson because he never even came close to being an NFL QB, injury or not--that didn't stop him from lining up behind the guard in the preseason.

People with blinders on knew Wuerffel had a rag arm and wouldn't amount to much, and his team was so awful he had no chance. But he was at least good enough to start for 2 NFL teams.

Dave Wilson was not good, but he wasn't horrible. At times he was kinda adequate, and he led the Saints to that ridiculous comeback win at Cincinnati in 1987.

Those are really the only three you can choose from. Maybe Ronnie Lee South in the 60s.

So what! That's not too bad. We had a starting QB throw a backwards pass...in a real game...and laugh about it.

P & PK

He was drafted for both, might as well let him have it.

I didn't put Dunbar because he got hurt a lot and he wasn't horrible when he was healthy. But he was under strong consideration.

Bates was actually the best of the Saints 90s RBs in my opinion. I had Zellars on the list at FB.

Freeman made the list.

I thought about Cherry, but at least he was a special teams contributor here and with the Patriots.

Dunbar exceeded 75 yds twice in his Saints career. He wasn't good at all. He's 10x the bust that mid round draft picks Troy Davis and Antonio Pittman are.

The Saints traded up to draft Pittman and he didn't even make the team.

I remember the expectations were HUGE for Troy Davis coming off his career at Iowa State and he barely averaged 3 yards a carry.

How many 1st rounders did he cost? Because Dunbar cost one.

So huge he was a 3rd round pick.

Irv Smith was a TE, not WR.

Trading up in the first round is the worse decision a team can do. How many non qb players are worth a 1st rounder plus other picks?
So why would an unknown rookie be worth it?

Sullivan was bad but Sean Knight was worse. Erxleben had to be the biggest wasted pick of all time. Is it too soon to put Stanley Jean Baptiste on the list?
