Anyone think perhaps we were taking some lumps just getting 2 of our starters back in their groove?

I mean that running back had a hellava day. But we have looked much better against better offenses in the past few weeks. Then yesterday...we looked like garbage in teh first half.

Props to Allen for the second half adjustments but we looked pretty lost in the first half.

I pose this question b/c Im was (and still am) very optimistic the past few weeks knowing we were getting two studs back soon (Rankins and Breaux). Then we come out like that....

They have good spurts of just solid defense and then do something like with their first TD. I don't understand why we never cover ANYONE out of the backfield. That and our db's never turning around....one of those running jokes with this unit.

Adjustments were made. I'm optimistic. But they have to cut down on the mind blowing breakdowns.

Agreed. On the long TE TD Vonn Bell HAS to get off the damn block. I get that the running back is 5'7 so he has the leverage for blocking but man...It didnt look like Bell was even working to get off the block. GET VIOLENT if you have to. But dont just accept that you are blocked and let the (not so fast TE) crib one from 65 yards...

Give it some time.

I think Rankins could still be a year 1 difference maker after he gets his feet wet, conditioned, etc.

Our biggest overall problem will continue to be the fact that we do not have a true pass rusher upfront.

Cam, Rankins, Fairley all appear to be effort rushers who will get there if the secondary holds up ,but we do not have that guy who will just blow a play up from the beginining.

I think Robertson and Stupar are playing as well as we can ask them to and our secondary while beatable is getting better as our young guys get more and more experience.

As long as Bell continues to improve I think this defense can be respectable.

Honestly Idk what to think about the defense. A couple weeks ago we looked stout and stingy, then sometimes we look like a high school team.

I think they had a poor gameplay coming out, and they had some assignment errors on top of it.

It seems they were playing off and trying to keep things in front of them, but Chip Kelly's offense is run heavy with a lot of short to intermediate passing.

If the defense is playing off and miss a tackle there's a lot of space to be had. A large bulk of their yards if not the majority were yards after the catch.

This is how I feel. I don't even know what to say anymore. They aren't untalented, they aren't incompetent, the scheme isn't awful. They just randomly forget what they're doing like 3-8 times a game and give up huge plays. Completely inexplicable.

There was some terrible lapses and guys wide open all over the field.

I hope it was a learned lesson. I hope.

We were broke until the fumble at the 1 yard line then we were straight.

This is the correct answer!

I think we didn't do too bad against Kansas City and they were solid against Seattle. I thought they had turned a corner.

But let's not forget, San Fran had its bye week coming into our game. They had us schemed up and took advantage of our man coverage

Kaep went 29 for 63 for 330 yards with 2 TDs and 2 int in his previous 2 starts. Statistically the worse passing QB over that span

24 for 39 for 398 yards w 2 TDs and 1 int vs us. Most in the 1st half. That's troubling bc CK is terrible

Credit the D for protecting a double digit lead after half and not pulling an Oakland game performance. But in the end it's still CK on a team w no weapons

Bell made rookie mistakes on the TD passes to the RB and the TE. He'll learn and become better for it.

Those numbers are horrible. But I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't really nervous going into sunday knowing we were playing Krappernick. He always has the potential and our D is still trying to stop pro style offenses. They were obviously confused out there. Our D in 2009 was awful at times as well but forced a ton of turnovers. Sunday was honestly extremely reminiscent of a 2009 type victory. Defense forces turnovers, defense holds the other team to the 20s, and the Saints put up 40 plus. Can you say Super Bowl?

Man I wish our defense could continue what they did against NY Giants. I know Eli put up good passing numbers but they overall came to play that game against a strong WR core.

Pretty impressive actually considering we've played 1 less game

Very true. There is only 1 elite team imo...the Pats. Some people are saying the Cowboys, but they look very beatable imo. There are only 4 bad teams...Browns, Bears, Jaguars, & 49ers. A ton of average/good teams. Anything can happen.
