I seem to recall the fear, dread, and doubt most Saints fans felt when Aaron made his 1st start and see several similarities to this situation. Playing on the road. Facing a very confident opponent. Unproven QB with a decent arm and decent mobility.

Is this a great situation? Obviously not. But as improbable as it was for AB to go into St. Louis and lead us to a win, let's hope that lightning strikes twice and puts us on the right trajectory for the remainder of the season.

I belive the boys will focus, rally around Luke, and find some way to win this game.

Brooks was an unknown and could run.

Luke is very much a known commodity. And I don't think he's going to be running.

ANd before people jump all over it, I know Brooks was not a running QB. I know that. But he had mobility.

Luke has sandbags tied to his feet.

Brooks was our QB of the future.

McCown is a stopgap.

That's relative. When compared to Drew, Luke's practically Fran Tarkenton. Bottom line, Luke may be able to keep a play alive and make some positive yardage in a way the Drew likely would not.

Drew's mobility is highly underrated. He's very athletic and always has beem

Nice that folks are focusing on only one of the three "similarities" that I put forth. But carry on....

You are in for a rude awakening, because that is not even remotely true.

Drew is athletic and can move around the pocket. Luke is very immobile.

I'm not sure about that, but it certainly isn't a huge difference like the OP made it out to be.

Drew's pretty amazing at avoiding pressure inside the pocket

Luke is a pretty gifted athlete in his own right, but has always seemed to lack the awareness and just kind of stand in the pocket without much movement

He's got good speed for a QB and some quickness. He can pick up a first with his legs, but it isn't a strength imo

Edit: holy crap, Luke had a 37.5 inch vertical at the combine

losing Jeff Blake and having Aaron Brooks step in is not the same as losing Drew Brees and having Luke McCown step in.

the green bay QB system was legit back then.

i do appreciate your optimism, but everyone just has to get over it.

hopefully we have some good plays.

Interestingly enough, these were some of the same sentiments expressed back then. The bottom line is that both of these scenarios are highly improbable, given the circumstances. I am not very hopeful that we can win. That said, let's remain realistic and see what happens on Sunday.

It was justified when you take into account what followed.

A Saints Win? Besides, you have to take the bitter with the sweet. His overall body of work notwithstanding, AB led us to playoff victory #1.

This isn't (I'm hopeful) about a long term proposition. We just need Luke to be decent enough to give us the best chance to win this game. If all goes well, we're 1-2 with Drew back in the saddle next week.

He can run, and faster than Drew. He doesn't have good pocket awareness, so if pressure comes, and he doesn't take off, it could get ugly.

I don't remember dread. I remember Brooks coming in for Blake and playing well, and most thinking we had something in the kid. No one thinks McCown is the heir apparent to Drew.
