7. Greg Romeus DE Pittsburgh (Cut)
7. Nate Bussey LB Illinois (Cut)

2010
1. Patrick Robinson CB Florida State (Cut)
2. Charles Brown T USC (Cut)
3. Jimmy Graham TE Miami (Traded)
4. Al Woods DT LSU (Cut)
5. Matt Tennant C Boston College (Cut)

7. Zach Strief T Northwestern
7. Marques Colston WR Hofstra

Now, I used "Cut" for anyone who wasn't traded. Probably should have just said gone, but whatever. Figured I would stockpile it for everyone here.

Most telling thing imo, is that from 2007 - 2010, there is only one drafted player still on the team, and that's Thomas Morstead.

Another is that in 3 different drafts, we double dipped from the same school and it really bit us. 2007 with Meachem and Mitchell from Tennessee, 2009 with Vaugh and Arnoux from Wake Forest and 2010 with Martez Wilson and Nate Bussey.

We have drafted 3 different players from 4 different schools;

Oregon State - Cooks, Canfield, Hass
Alabama - Sunseri, Ingram, Harper
Nebraska - Jean-Baptiste, Jones, Nicks
USC - Brown, Ellis, Bush

Even more interesting is that we seemed to have gone back to those same four schools in three different years.

2006 - USC, Alabama, Oregon State
2008 - USC, Nebraska
2014 - Oregon State, Nebraska, Alabama

Some of those drafts were garbage. With that being said using "cut" in alot of those instances is very misleading.

Just add current team or out of league. That will give perspective

Another thing that pops out is that we've only drafted 5 LBs in all of those drafts...and none of them higher than the 3rd round. Only 1 of them is still on the team (Powell from last year).

That's why we've played in the FA market so much and thereby increased the cap problems.

Last year's draft was nothing short of being a joke. It almost felt that the FO was scouting more from hospital records than game tapes.

Aren't you a happy fellow in the morning.

90% of the threads on here are repetitive and that's never been a major problem. BTW...95% of the articles on the major sports outlets are reprocessed crap; so, we're doing better than them!

for all the hate they get for poor drafts, 2013 was a triple that they are rounding the base for an in the park homerun. Jenkins still is to be determined, but he is solid. Vaccaro was stellar as a rookie, though last year he had major setbacks. Let's see if we get the improved rookie this year or the one hit wonder bust. Armstead seems to be the read deal, and Stills was very good. Johnson was the only whiff, and that's in the 6th round so no big deal.

If we have a draft like that this year with all the picks we have, then we are in very good shape

Only 15 players no the team are guys we drafted.

Not sure how that compares to other teams that are successful, but it seems abysmal.

I am at the point where I know that if we draft a LB in the 3rd-5th rounds, he will not be any good at all and will be out of the league in 3 years.

To be consistent, wouldn't you have to remove the 2012 roster (or put an asterisk) since SP was suspended.

There Should be no excuses with the draft this year. The FO cannot afford another poor draft. We need at least 5 starters or role players from this draft.

Interior OL
WR
Pass rusher
Interior LB
CB

Someone in the scouting department needs to be "cut" for the piss poor recommendations they gave on defensive players.

In nine drafts, they have drafted 27 defensive players.

Only 3 of those picks are currently starters.

Only 7 started a season as a Saints starter and held the job for most or all of the season.

Ouch.

Definitely agree there. Our defensive drafting has been nothing short of abysmal, aside from Jordan and Vaccaro, really.

I am not disagreeing with you, I think it is time to start holding people accountable; however, look at when those players were drafted.

5 defensive 1st rounders, all started at 1 point and 2 are current starters
3 2nd rounders, 2 started the other was drafted as a project
5 3rd rounders, 3 were starters (counting both Hicks & Jenkins as a starter since they seem to rotate that role. And Patrick received some significant playing time, Wilson was a TC STUD.

15 others were 4th or later and have all shown some sort of promise to at least contribute.

So while there were a lot of misses from the scouting dept, I think a lot of the failings falls on the Coaching Dept & GM for not putting more of an emphasis on drafting defenders earlier.

saints have lowest total draft picks of all nfl teams which is bad.The more picks you have you increase the odds of hiting on some.So please no trade ups i would like to see two trade downs an go for 12 total picks. One thing stands out only one Quaterback drafted if we see some extra trade down picks i think they draft a Qb late.

We do have more UDFA that we hit on than most teams though.

Josh Hill
Khiry Robinson
Lelito
Joe Morgan

On D

Edebali
Galette
Dixon
Foster
Warren

To name a few. None of those guys on D, other than Galette, are starters, but they get PT.

Completely agree, man. I'm all for trading down from 13 even, short of Amari Cooper, Kevin White, Brandon Scherff or one of the premium pass rushers falling to us.
