Archie got virtually David Carr'ed on such absolutely terrible teams. The organization in that era was worse than today's Browns IMO.

Bobby Hebert was more an accessory to a great defensive team rather than lead the way.

Besides that it was mostly embarrassment and failure for nearly 40 years.

We have been able to have the QB position rock solid for a decade now with a first ballot HOFer. Thanks again Breesus for taking us out of the dark ages to a Super Bowl win and giving pride to the franchise.

I'm an old fart but would like to hear comments from 20-25 year olds. I took me 25 years as a fan for my team to have it's first winning season. To know nothing worse than 7-9 over ten years, I cannot imagine.

Minus the Katrina season we have been 7-9 at worst since 2000. Pretty damn good run for our standards.

Earliest memories I have is my dad and brother praying for Andersen to hit his fgs.

I became a fan in '86 when when my dad instilled on me that we were from Louisiana and it was alright to cheer for the Saints and LSU. Living in Florida and Alabama for a lot of my childhood, I never got to know anything but schools around here and I cheered for them just so I could fit in.

true dat

Archie only survived from his mobility. When ya consider that it makes his sack totals all the more incredible.

In his first seven years he was sacked 259 times!?! 3 out of those 7 he led the NFL in sacks. 49 in 1975. There was not the QB protection that we now have either. A quarter of all pass plays then would be roughing the passer today.

Archie had talent and even more potential. It was prolly impossible for anyone to be successful with the pitiful front office and embarrassing coaches of that era. Brees prolly less physical tools but got past potential to fulfillment.

No I haven't seen the bad seasons older fans have, outside of Katrina.

I started really getting into football in 1999-2000 when I was 9/10 years old. So the only truly bad season I had to witness was Katrina. Outside of that it was mainly very mediocre. Still cried like a little bitch when they won the Superbowl

thanks for getting my week off to a depressing arse start

Still remember when found out we signed Drew. Was walking my dog on the beach with my girlfriend in St Augustine when I got a text from my buddy. That dog is now 14,that girlfriend is now my wife and mother of my two kids, and we've had a great run and won the godamn superbowl. Crazy decade!

I'm 22, but vividly remember the Aaron Brooks days. In fact I still have an Aaron Brooks jersey in my closet somewhere

Though I know there were worse times than even those. I still very much remember the lateral last second TD return and Carney promptly missing the point after

I'm 25 going on 26. At the QB position the furthest I can vividly remember are the Billy Joe days. I remember being 5 years old and running outside on Sunday's and hearing my parents scream at the TV during the Saints games. I really started getting into Saints football when Jeff Blake was signed in part to 2 reasons: my grandfather was a season ticket holder and we were given one to two games a season to go to and my dad was working at Nicholls at the time when they held training camp in Thibodaux. Been a diehard ever since and although I didn't endure those suffering years pre 1990 it pains me to see people my age that didn't know one Saints player before 2009 now claiming to be the most loyal fan. Get out of here with that crap. I miss my grandfather like crazy; when he died we kept the tickets going so I've been extremely fortunate to have been able to witness some of the best games in franchise history. To me, there's nothing like a crisp Fall Sunday morning in New Orleans on game day.

This is from an older thread of mine. Thought it would be appropriate here:

quote:

Here is the average game of Drew Brees in a Saints uniform. Remember, this is for 158 games over 10 years (he's only missed 2 games as a starter).

Avg. game - 27/40; 307.3 yards per game; TD - 2.2; INT - 1

Also here are his average numbers from his 10 playoff games in a Saints uniform:

28/42; 322 yards per game; TD - 2.2; INT - 0.5
