The depth chart is based on where guys will initially start(my best guess) and isn't a reflection of who will actually start. Remember that Payton puts seniority first in almost all situations.

Thanks for putting the list together.

I'd think that Hickey and Gambrell need to be switched. I read that Gambrel is likely to start out at RT and Hickey is likely to start out at G.

On the opium thing that was just my stupid phone auto uncorrecting again.

On the backup Oline, I also heard Hickey would be a guard but I was just going by what the Saints put them as in the press release. Same for the backup Dline I had to just guess at it. I can switch them though.

I switched Lemon to C as I think someone will be taking third string snaps there. This is all fluid until they start practicing and we get more concrete info. It's more just to get an idea of the depth at the positions and how many bodies we have at certain spots.

Actually only 89 until after the tryouts

Will be 90 when Collins doesn't sign with the Saints.

At the center position it should be Max Unger --Michael Brewster--Then Mike Golic Jr.who has played center/guard/tackle also Andrew Miller has played center/guard.Tim Lelito only with Saints has played center but if he is the starting left guard i do not consider him anymore as a backup center.Of the 3 UFDA- linemen just signed all who were rated fairly high i do not think any project to center but if any did it would be Cyril Lemon who at 6-2.6/312 has a more pure guard/center body frame. If lelito starts at left guard i Think Michael Brewster the prime one to be back up center.

On the TE note, I just saw Fred Davis was reinstated. With the lack of options for a 3rd TE, he might be worth a look.

I touched on this before. Payton usually lumps all the TEs and FBs together(Graham being an exception) and generally takes 4 into the season. So I imagine we're set with Watson, Hill, Lorig, and Johnson.

That wouldn't surprise me. But, I do think we add one more "pass catcher" to that group (especially with the current WR group) whether it be one of the UDFAs, or a current FA like Davis or Jermaine Gresham. We're currently missing 148 receptions from last year, 85 of those from the TE position, and we've added no one at WR or TE, outside of some UDFAs.

Every year we play the replacement the receptions game and every year someone(s) gets them. We'll be fine in that sense. The more important thing is the quality of the catches. Cadet had about 40 catches but rarely had an impactful one.

Especially since you typed that all out on your phone.

We do? Again, not that I necessarily disagree with you, but when have we ever lost THIS many receptions from a previous season? you could very well be correct that we only go into the season with those 4 (Hill, Watson, Lorig, Johnson), but it would surprise me. I really do think one of the UDFAs make the team, especially with Watson being 34, or a veteran is added at some point.

Do you think Payton keeps 3 Qb's on the final 53?

QB:
Brees
Griffin
Grayson

Or
QB:
Brees
McCown
Grayson

or 2:
QB:
Brees
Grayson?

On the TE thing I'm not saying we definitely won't bring three, just that I think the top 4 at those two positions is set and anyone else would be mostly a game day inactive/injury depth. That is unless they make a surprise signing or trade but I'm not seeing it.

On the QB thing, we definitely bring Grayson just because of the investment, but whether we bring another one depends on how good he looks. I think it's likely we bring three, with probably McCown being the top back up again.

And thanks for the thanks guys.

Pretty sure Spencer, Haralson, Powell and Kikaha will all be competing at the same spot. That's where Spencer played for Dallas under Ryan.

Galette, Edebali and Tull on the opposite side.

I thought Spencer played the rush backer (and that's why he was moved to DE when they went 4-3) and Ware was the Strongside versatile LB (which is why he stayed a LB in their 4-3).

And I know they moved around a lot and Ware played off of the LT more, but I'm more talking about role rather than what side they played on.

In that sense Ware is backing up Galette as the rush backer even if he comes in on the other side. And I can see them being on the field together also.
