I would not mind this draft for the Saints at all.

quote:

Rnd 1: New Orleans Saints: Jack Conklin, OT/G, Michigan State
Many expect the Saints to go defense here, and they very well could. However, it shouldn't stun anyone if New Orleans selects an offensive lineman like Jack Conklin. The team has a major hole in the inside of the blocking unit, which is problematic because the Saints greatly value interior blocking. Keeping Drew Brees healthy in the final few years of his career is extremely important if the team wants to have any sort of Super Bowl aspirations. And yes, Conklin over Ronnie Stanley. I have a feeling that's going to happen, as some teams have shared a growing concern with Stanley and his lack of passion for football. I don't think he'll fall that far, but Conklin could be chosen before him.

Rnd 2: New Orleans Saints: Kenny Clark, DT, UCLA
We all know how bad New Orleans' secondary is, but part of the problem is that the team hasn't gotten any sort of push up front. It's especially dire at defensive tackle, where 80-year-old Kevin Williams was the team's best player last year. Something absolutely needs to be done about that. Nick Fairley was signed, but that was just to a 1-year deal, so I don't think he'll affect this choice.

Rnd 3: New Orleans Saints: Deion Jones, LB, LSU
The Saints need to continue upgrading their defense, as they need help on all three levels. They have to improve upon Dannell Ellerbe, who was horrible last year.

Rnd 4: New Orleans Saints: Pharoh Cooper, WR, South Carolina
Marques Colston is done, and the Saints need someone to draw attention away from Brandin Cooks.

Rnd 5: New Orleans Saints: Tyvis Powell, S, Ohio State
The Saints are pretty thin at safety, and just one injury there could be crushing. They'll have to do something about that.

Conklin is a good prospect but taking a guard in the first round doesn't seem worth it to me.

It's not awful, but it isn't good. If we're gonna go offense in round 1, I'd rather a top WR.

Also, I completely disagree with Ellerbe being bad last year. Injury prone, yes. He had one bad game while healthy, the rest he looked solid to great, depending. If they think he is fully healthy I am comfortable riding with him and all the new LBs, and completely ignoring that position unless a really good guy falls somewhere and we can get good value.

This mock does nothing for me.
Does it address some holes? Sure, but you could pick any position on defense and make a solid case that you're filling a hole.

taking an OL in the 1st RD in back to back drafts, after the reach that Peat was, probably wont happen.

Pharoh Cooper i like a lot, but he is a slot WR, which isnt what we need.

The other picks make sense but those arent the guys id target

This is pretty much how I feel. If we took Conklin, I'd understand because his stock is sky rocketing right now and just look at Dallas. If Brees had the line Romo does, he'd kill it. An OL of Armstead, Lelito, Unger, Peat and Conklin would be pretty damn impressive.

With that said though, we will have our choice of a premium defender and in my opinion, you cannot pass on that.

I'm good with 2-5. Start Peat at Guard this year if not, again he will sit.

Common sense.

Kenny Clark in the 2nd would be awesome. I'd be fine with Conklin in the 1st as well.

And by this statement everything else he states is meaningless drivel. fricking idiot has no idea what he's talking about. When Ellerbe was playing this defense was actually pretty good, as was he. He was injured you fricking tool, not "horrible."

I thought the same as well. He has a great motor and was all over the field.

If Treadwell is there when they pick, and they pick anyone else. . .I will probably type an angrily worded post on Tigerdroppings.
