272 pounds is small for a 4-3 DE? 6'6, 272 pounds is not someone who should be playing 3-4 OLB. Will Smith is listed at 282 pounds, but looks to be more like 290. Either way, he definitely has the size and power to be a 3-4 DE. You sound like someone who doesn't understand anything about 3-4 defenses.

If you would have kept reading the thread instead of the one posting you would have seen that I already said that the last I heard he was 255 not 272. Will Smith is a bad run stopper and pass rusher who I I have watched countless time get absolutely manhandled by 1 olineman. He is bad at holding his ground which is why people run his way. A 3-4 DE needs to be able to occupy blockers and Smith can not.

What a ridiculous argument. Will Smith can't do anything.

It's true. He just expensively occupies a roster spot.

The one thing Will Smith is good at is bull rush. He is a strong guy, and also has the size for the position. He is a bad run stopper because many times he goes really wide on his pass rush and the running back goes right past him hitting the whole Smith created by going wide. There is no going wide in a 3-4. He would have to play more with power, which suits him.

My apologies for the Broughton thing. I post as I read, as I'm sure many people do.

yeah, he does get to far up the field some times on running plays. He had some rough games against Carolina this past year.

But I agree that he could do the job at the 3-4 DE. But god if he does come back, I hope he takes a pay cut.

when you run a certain blitz, you could see that though.

But most of the time, especially on runs, you just maintain your gap( try and not get sealed off) and keep the outside shoulder free.

other times its all about keeping the tackle from getting to the next level and blocking the one of the inside backers.

its kind of like jamming the TE at the line of scrimmage for a DE/LB in the 4-3.
